College Football Pick'em: Lisa v Tim Croley

Lisa HorneNov 5, 2008

Guess who can't sit down? Me. I got a serious can of whoop @#% from Tim Pollock, the Dirty South's favorite son. He punked me big time. Congrats to Tim. I let him pick a week the Cocks won too...Tim, you owe me.

Tim reeled off a fantastic 7/10, while I spanked out a 4/10. New totals are:

Lise 41/90

Boys 45/90

Up next is the Blue Man, aka, Tim Croley, who has decided to grace us with blue font instead of black. Makes my job easier!

Born and raised in the Heart of Dixie, this Bama boy loves his college football! I’m a high school football official on Friday nights, and a college football junkie on Saturdays. I believe in smash mouth football, the wishbone, and the 3-4 defense. And, most importantly, I hate orange!

The games....

Va Tech -3.5 v Maryland (Thursday night game)

Lisa: Maryland. Ralph Friedgen will torment Terps fans by solidifying his job security with another win and causing Terps fans to drown their sorrows in beers.

Tim: Maryland. After stomping Wake at home a couple of weeks ago, the Terps had a bit of a let down game last week. Tech, contrary to their record, has played everyone tough this season. So, one would think that Tech could keep it close. Not so fast, my friend (in my best Corso imitation). Tech is banged up at the QB position, and for that reason I think Maryland may have another big win coming their way.

TCU -2.5 @ Utah (Thursday night game)

Lisa: Utah. I think it comes down to a one point game, so the Utes cover and remain in the BCS Bowl race, much to the disdain of Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, USC and Florida fans. (Pssst...go Horned Frogs!)

Tim: TCU. The TCU defense is giving up a mere 10.8 points per game. Enough said!

Ohio State -11 @ Northwestern

Lisa: Northwestern. Gut call here. The Bucks are a better team, but the Wildcats will do everything possible to keep it close.

Tim: Ohio State. Last year the Buckeyes won by 51! I think a victory by at least two touchdowns is very manageable this season for OSU.

Texas Tech -3 v Oklahoma State

Lisa: Texas Tech. Okie State can't keep up with Harrell. No way. Would love to see another undefeated team go down, but not in this game.

Tim: Oklahoma State. Texas Tech is still on an emotional high after beating Texas. Texas, who has just been pushed to the limits both physically and emotionally over the past four weeks almost beat Tech. Under different circumstance Texas may have shut the Tech offense down. Oklahoma State was so very close to beating Texas. State has the ability to run with the big boys, and they’ll prove it this week as their defense steps up and does what Texas couldn’t.

Alabama -3.5 @ LSU

Lisa: LSU. I think this game could be a real snoozefest, with both defenses keeping the scores low. Bama should win by a field goal, considering their recent three games haven't shown a lot of fireworks.

Tim: Alabama. Three things are in Bama’s favor, IMHO. First, they have historically played better in Baton Rouge than at home against LSU. Second, they have played great on the road this season. And third, a weaker Alabama team almost pulled off the upset last year against a much superior LSU squad that won the national championship. Alabama will get it done this year by at least 7 points.

Boston College -3.5 v Notre Dame

Lisa: Boston College. I have now been 0/5 on ND picks, and since I picked BC, ND should win. But ND hasn't fared well on the road, so the Iggles have a chance to win.

Tim: Notre Dame. At first, I thought that this one would be a close, tough pick. Then I realized that BC is quickly falling off the map after getting hammered by UNC and embarrassed at home by a mediocre Clemson squad. At least ND kept their match-up with UNC respectable. BC has won the past four games in this series, but like all good things it comes to an end for the Eagles Saturday.

USC -18.5 v Cal

Lisa: USC. Homer pick, Cal is a good team, but it's at the Coliseum, QB Riley hasn't been cleared to play, and Pete has to have an impressive win over Cal to not drop further in the polls. Trojans by 28 points.

Tim: Cal. While I do think USC will win this game, I don’t think they will do so by more than two touchdowns. This Cal team is better than most are giving them credit for. Look for a tough battle from the Bears, and a closer than predicted win from the Trojans.

Penn State -7.5 @ Iowa

Lisa: Penn State. Ugh, do the Hawkeyes have enough players out of jail yet to field a complete team? This one will be ugly, Iowa stinks.

Tim: Penn State. Tough line here, and a tough test for Penn State. However, I think they will continue their national title hopes by taking this one by double digits.

South Carolina -10 v Arkansas

Lisa: Arky. I'm not sold on the Gamecocks by 10, and Petrino's Hogs have actually started to play better football, albeit still not impressive by any means. The Hogs cover.

Tim: Carolina. The Gamecocks finally seem to have things going as they press toward a legitimate bowl appearance. They have not beaten the Hogs by more than four points since 2000, but I look for them to roast the Razorbacks in Carolina this weekend.

North Carolina -5 v Georgia Tech

Lisa: North Carolina. Home field advantage in Chapel Hill is sweet, and although they are missing their biggest playmaker, the Tar Heels still have a pretty good team. The triple option might stumble a bit, and that's why I am picking the Heels over the Wreck.

Tim: Georgia Tech. This is one of the hardest games I’ve seen all year. Both teams have two losses apiece, with both losses for both teams coming to Virginia and Virginia Tech. Carolina is coming off a huge win over Boston College. GT came from behind last week to knock off FSU. The long layoff, with the huge win for UNC makes the difference for me. I foresee a UNC letdown, thus giving GT the edge in this one.
