Boston Red Sox: The Chronicles of Josh Reddick

There's something going on in Boston.

It's not the Red Sox's three-game lead in the AL East or Adrian Gonzalez's MVP-like season. It's Josh Reddick.

Since Boston's starting right fielder after J.D. Drew officially landed on the disabled list Monday, the 24-year-old has finally been given full-time at-bats.

In only a short sample of what he can do at the major league level, Reddick has produced a .358 average through roughly 100 plate appearances, hitting four home runs, three triples, seven doubles, 22 runs and 10 walks.

If you don't know who or what Reddick has done in only his third major league season, now you know.

Similar to a hero hidden by shade, Boston's young talent has yet to gain the recognition he deserves.

It's hard to argue that any hitter in the American League has outproduced Reddick the over the past 32 games.

He's been that good and with Drew sidelined for the next few weeks, Boston could be catching a glimpse of the future.

The Red Sox are going to face some tough decisions in this year's offseason. Not only is David Ortiz going to be a free agent looking for a lucrative three-year deal, but the Red Sox have to decide whether or not they'll be able to re-sign Drew, Jonathan Papelbon and even Jason Varitek.

But beyond all the contract talks and free agent hearsay, one thing is for sure, Reddick is here to stay.

In a year where Carl Crawford has been a major disappointment and where a starting rotation has struggled to stay healthy, a young rookie outfielder has stolen the show to start out the second half of the season.

It will all depend on how he performs over the next two weeks, but based on his production thus far, it's possible that we could be looking at the future of the Boston Red Sox.
