Raiders Set to Release High Profile Players

Joe Burgett Nov 5, 2008

It is a very dark day for Oakland Raider fans, because Raiders owner Al Davis and supposedly his staff want to release high profile players, including pro-bowler DeAngelo Hall. Hall is set to be released as soon as today or tomorrow unless Davis comes to his senses.

Javon Walker is projected to be released also.  He is their best receiver and probably their best threat on offense.  He is set to make $66 million over seven years and, if released, he is still allotted a good amount of that.

Davis is better off trading both Hall and Walker rather than releasing them. He will get talent and perhaps a draft pick.  It's better than nothing.

They don't have the money to release him, however. Al Davis needs to hand the team over because I don't know how they can win with him in control.  Davis is one of the lowest paid owners in the league.

There are not many people who want to attend games because the Raiders are losing, but it's a two-way street because the Raiders' losses may be due to lack of fan support.  No one even buys their merchandise as much anymore. The days of the silver and black seem to be over.

Davis is too old for the league.  He should be more like Robert Craft and allow the team and coaches to handle everything.  He should give a general manager an opportunity and just live the last days of his life because he is killing a once proud team.

Mr. Davis, Hall was just added by the Raiders in the offseason, and now you want to release him just eight games into the season.  The Raiders could still make the playoffs, if they win the rest of their games.

Why would you give up now, Al?

You have made many mistakes in the last 10 years.  I know that you made it to the Super Bowl during those years, but you lost, even with Rich Gannon, Jerry Rice, and Tim Brown.

This is not the 2002-03 team, and it never will be.  They, however, can lean on their defense, but you want to get rid of one of your best defensive players in DeAngelo Hall...?

I know you may want to cut your losses, but Hall has three interceptions already and almost 50 tackles.  He is having a pro-bowl year and you want to release him?

Come on, Al. At least think this one through. Madden isn't there to set you straight this time.
