Timo Glock: The Knight In Shining Armour?

Antony HerbertNov 4, 2008

Timo Glock slowed down deliberately to allow Lewis Hamilton to overtake him which in turn broke Brazilian hearts and cost Massa his debut drivers title at the last possible moment. You could not write a better ending to an F1 season could you? Many see this as the happenings of the weekend—mostly, bitter Ferrari fans of course.

But did this happen?  NO!

A part of me actually wishes it had happened. It would have created an even bigger buzz around Hamilton’s deserved title glory, and also would have produced an exciting and enticing media storm. After all, any press is good press right?

In retrospect Lewis Hamilton has not got to thank Timo Glock for his glory. Timo did the best he could on dry weather tyres in pouring rain, and let’s not forget on the same dry tyres his team mate was also running on, and running slower on.

No, Hamilton should actually be thanking the foolish idiots at Toyota who decided to keep the unfortunate duo of Timo and Jarno Trulli on dry tyres whilst all other teams made the right decision to switch in order to allow their drivers competitive cars.

The hilarity of those who were quick to judge Glock was sensational. Many decided to ignore the fact that he was on dry tyres and was quicker than Jarno. They also ignored that Glock did not make the decision on tyre choice—his team did. In turn they believe that Hamilton was gifted the championship by Glock as opposed to looking into it.

More than anyone, I feel sorry for Timo Glock; a driver who has made leaps and bounds this year, but now has to answer questions of corruption and alliance to another driver. Oh the hilarity of it all—read the facts people!
