So if you were looking on the web for sports news in the last day or so you would have noticed that the Leafs lost the other night in Carolina by a final score of 6-4. The 6th goal being into an empty net. They were up at one point 3-1 but let the game slip away in the third period.  Well the second half of the home and home was tonight in Toronto and it did not start that well for the Maple Leafs.

The Leafs came out ok and carried the play early but a couple of bad bounces and Vesa Toskala being lethargic in the net added up to a 3-0 Carolina lead after about ten minutes of play. The score at the end of the first period was 4-1 for the Canes.

The Leafs took control in the second period and it took over 13 minutes for Carolina to register their first shot of the middle frame. Toronto got close getting the score to 4-3 after two periods and out shot Carolina 16-5 in the period. The leafs were chipping, chasing, and winning most of the races for the puck all night and getting pressure on the Canes defense.

Mikhail Grabovski tied it up for Toronto 1:29 into the third period but they could not get another past Cam Ward, so they went to overtime. Toronto out shot the Hurricanes 42-23 in regulation time. Grabovski finished with a three point night.

Nick Wallin won the game for Carolina about two minutes into overtime with a shot from the point. It looked like Alexei Ponikarovsky missed the assignment on Wallin because he had an open shot.

The thing I like most about this new Edition of the Leafs is their work ethic, they never quit and keep coming back no matter what the score. The team speed is much faster this year too and makes the previous addition of the leafs look slow, lazy and complacent by comparison. The games are entertaining and fun to watch due to the youth and enthusiasm.

But there is still a long way to go to get here, lol
