USC Trojans Fans Better Hope Oregon State Wins Out

Dear USC fans-

What I am asking you to do is really the unfathomable. It's horrific, it's disgusting, and it's going to leave a foul taste in your mouth.

Root for Oregon State to win out. In fact, pray for them to win out.

That's right. Hope and pray the Oregon State Beavers win the Pac-10.

Huh? What? What's that you say? Root for the Beavers?

Yes. Root for Riley's Beavs to win out.

It's really very simple. The Beavers, by winning the Pac-10 via a tie-breaker (their win over USC), will get an automatic bid to go the Rose Bowl. And play the Big Ten champ.

You know the Big Ten champs- those teams that always get beat up by USC. Let the Beavs take on Penn State, Ohio State or Michigan State.

It's been since 1964 that the Beavers played in the Rose Bowl (the game, not venue). Isn't it about time the folks on Orange Grove Blvd saw a different color scheme? A plushy mascot instead of a white horse?

Isn't it time to put a different team's initials on the scoreboard? The "USC" seems to be permanently burned on the scoreboard- either get OSU in there or use a better screen saver.

While the Beavs are fat and happy in the Rose Bowl, the Trojans, if they win out, will be in the top 8, and in good position to get another BCS bowl berth.

If you are on the Sugar Bowl Selection Committee, who are you going to select to play Alabama or Florida?

Do you want another (remember Hawai'i?) BCS buster like Utah or Boise State? Or do you want to bring USC out there and let them play the Tide? Or Gators?

Do you want a WAC or MWC team playing an SEC team, or USC? Could the answer be any more obvious? It's what the fans want. It would probably garner just as high ratings as the Championship Game.

College football wants this match-up. College football needs this match-up.

A football dynasty of this millennium versus an elite SEC team. Two prolific scoring teams going for it. Endless smack, endless debate, and an instant classic.

Is there a chance USC would get left standing out of the BCS picture like Mizzou last year?

Yes, but I doubt a one-loss USC team will be left empty-handed. The BCS is too smart to let that happen. The Sugar Bowl pitting an SEC team against USC would be just too awesome to pass up, but there is a small chance USC could get snubbed.

Are you willing to take that chance for the bigger prize? * cough* "Hell yes!" *cough*

A chance to beat the SEC in its own backyard? A chance to show those fans that football really does exist west of the Mississippi? A chance to play a different conference?

It's a chance to start a new rivalry. Enough of the Big Ten v SEC. Screw the Big Ten v USC. Time for some new blood.

Go Beavers, the Trojan faithful have your backs and will be rooting you on to Pasadena. Meanwhile, the SC fans will be starting up the Sugar Bowl campaign.

New Orleans is a lot more fun than Pasadena, trust me.
