Sam WestmorelandJul 19, 2011

Los Angeles Lakers star Lamar Odom was involved in a serious automobile accident on Thursday, involving the car he was riding in, a motorcyclist and a 15-year-old pedestrian in New York City.

Now, according to a report from TMZ, the pedestrian involved in the accident has died.

The accident occurred on Saturday afternoon in New York City as Odom was being driven to a funeral for his cousin in Queens. The car struck a motorcycle, which was then propelled into a 15-year-old pedestrian, giving both victims serious injuries which required hospitalization.

Odom was involved in the accident, but was reportedly uninjured. He was reportedly visibly distraught by the accident and TMZ reported at the time of the incident that Odom was crying over what happened.

The 15-year-old boy reportedly suffered severe head trauma in the incident and was rushed to the hospital for treatment of his injuries. Doctors attempted to perform emergency surgery to save the boy's life, but he died from his injuries shortly thereafter.

A funeral was held on Monday afternoon for the boy, and it's unclear whether Odom attended or not. The star forward was reportedly devastated by the damage done by the accident, particularly because he was already in New York City for a funeral.

This was a terrible tragedy and one that's incredibly tough to write about. Our sympathies go out to the family of the boy who passed away and to those close to the motorcyclist, who is still in the hospital with injuries.
