UFC 137 News: GSP Talks Nick Diaz and Jake Shields

Andrew BarrJun 7, 2018

UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre took time out of his busy training schedule today to speak with Marcos Villegas of FightHubTV.com about his upcoming fight with Nick Diaz at UFC 137.

The interview takes place at the renowned Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, Calif., where GSP goes to train with legendary boxing coach Freddie Roach.

When asked what him and Freddie were working on in preparation for Diaz, St-Pierre answered carefully, being careful not to divulge an important information.

"It's secret technique, you know", the UFC champion said. "I'm not going to give away my game plan. I'm mostly training just to stay in shape right now. Freddie, for me, is the greatest boxing coach. So, while I'm in LA, so I'm coming and training with him. I want to spend more time with him and improve my boxing."

About his improvements as a boxer since working with Roach, Georges was more open.

"[I've improved] a lot," he said. "I get more confidence into it and I can't wait for my next fight. It's going to be good."

GSP's next opponent, Nick Diaz, is good friends and training partners with Georges' most recent opponent, Jake Shields. St-Pierre wouldn't say which fighter he thought was better, but said that the two men pose different problems for him.

"It's a different problem," he said. "I don't say he's better than Jake Shields, I don't know about that, but he poses different problems. He's got a different set of skills and I'm going to take of the problem, that's my job."

Some fans have speculated that Nick has the skills to beat Georges both standing and on the ground. GSP was quick to say that he disagreed with sentiment.

"No," he said. "It's a problem, but like I said, I'm going to solve it."

St-Pierre seems confident that he has all the tools he needs to defeat Diaz and is excited to get back in the Octagon.

The fight will be the main event of UFC 137, which takes place on October 29 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nev.
