NFL Trade Rumors: 3 Dream Scenarios for Dealing Kevin Kolb
As the lockout finally starts to dwindle, that means free agency can finally get on it's way.
Ever since the end of the season, there have been countless rumors stirring up the mill. Now that we may actually start to see deals happen instead of just tossing the idea around, it's quite exciting.
Everyone knows that Kevin Kolb is the talk of the NFL right now and where he may land. It's hard to picture him staying in Philadelphia next year, and there's one team that has been eyeing him.
I'm talking about the Arizona Cardinals.
The Cardinals are in dire need of a steady quarterback that can lead the team to where Kurt Warner left them. Kolb seems to be that man for Whisenhunt in Arizona, but only time will tell.
Here are the top three scenarios for dealing Kevin Kolb.
Arizona Cardinals for a CB
1 of 3The Cardinals are likely the most probable landing spot for Kolb, so odds are it will be a pretty big deal.
The Eagles have struggled recently on defense; mainly in keeping a steady corner. The Arizona Cardinals have a great player in Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (DRC) and have also drafted Patrick Peterson in the first round.
Now, did the Cardinals draft Peterson with the idea to fill the spot of DRC if they trade him, or did they draft him to put him on the table?
Patrick Peterson was the best CB available in the draft this year. The Eagles would love to have him on the team, simply because he is young talent that can be molded by Reid and the rest of the Eagles staff into a top player.
DRC would be a great fit too. He has racked up 13 interceptions in only three seasons and is quick on his feet. His only downfall is that he lacks significantly in the tackling department.
So where will the Eagles steer their future. They can take the young first round draft pick and hope he is as good as he was in college or take DRC in hopes he learns to tackle a little better.
Either way, I'm sure the Eagles will expect something extra in this transaction. Possibly a third round draft pick? The Eagles do have a history of racking up tons of draft picks so they can deal some away for trading up.
The Eagles know what they have in Kolb, and they're not going to just give him away.
Arizona for a LB
2 of 3This is something I heard a while ago, and I do like the idea.
After all the discussion about trading Kolb for a corner, what if the events turned and they went a different direction? It's not that bad of an idea. Why would the Eagles trade for a CB when they just drafted one in Curtis Marsh?
So let's say we scratch the trade idea for a corner and say the Eagles want to fill another gap on their defense in the linebacker position.
Eagles fans know they have had a lot of trouble finding a steady core at linebacker. Steward Bradley at MLB is a great player who is probably one of the most underrated linebackers in the league, but he just can't stay healthy.
Injuries are the kryptonite for many teams, and late in the season, it comes back to haunt you.
So here's the other scenario: trade Kolb for a linebacker. Who may you ask? Daryl Washington.
Daryl Washington is only in his second year in the league, but that is a good thing. In his rookie season, Washington had 78 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble, and one interception. Those are some pretty descent statistics for a rookie.
The young linebacker seems to be a solid player, and the Eagles can certainly use him on the roster. The Eagles have a great coaching staff and would love to get their hands on this guy. He would most likely start next season for the Cardinals, and would continue to do so if he keeps putting up big numbers.
Once again, the Eagles would receive another draft pick in return, because just Washington will not suffice. Because Washington is so young and his career could go either way it is quite the risk. I would expect either a future second round pick or a third round pick as well.
Seattle Seahawks for Draft Picks or Cash
3 of 3This is kind of unlikely, but it's by far the best option. This can go into two directions, draft picks or money. I'll start off with draft picks.
Matt Hasselbeck of the Seattle Seahawks is now a free agent. Who of a better player to replace him than Kevin Kolb?
It was rumored that when the fire surrounding Kolb first started, the Seahawks were willing to trade a first and third-round draft pick. Wow, wouldn't that be nice.
Imagine what the Eagles could do with two first round draft picks. They could keep them and draft two elite college players, or they could trade one away for a top player.
Remember when the Oakland Raiders traded Randy Moss to the New England Patriots? They traded him for a fifth-round pick. Imagine who the Eagles could get with a first or even second-round pick.
Next is something you rarely see anymore, but I do fancy this.
If the Seattle Seahawks were completely desperate and the only thing the Eagles wanted in return was cash, would they follow through? I realize how silly this may sound, trading Kolb for just money, but I like it. This is the most unlikely, simply because after everything that has happened this off-season it's not as easy to trade a player and get loads of money in return anymore like it was 50 years ago.
Let's just say it happened, how would this be a good trade. The Eagles have a lot of free agents this year, and most of them will not return. There are also a lot of quality players on the market that the team would love to have wearing an Eagles jersey. The extra cash can help them re-sign a few players while picking up some as well.
Like I said this is the most unlikely situation, but hey, this is a "dream scenario" after all.
