World Transfer Rumours: Where Sergio Aguero Will Play Next Season

Clark SeilingJun 7, 2018

Now that the Copa America is finished for Argentina, it is time for Aguero to figure out his home for next season.  Juventus has already courted him, and after that deal apparently fell through Aguero came out and stated that he wanted to play in England or remain in Spain.  I would argue that only four clubs can afford Aguero, but which club is willing to invest in him is a different issue.

Spain:

Barcelona - with a reported transfer budget of around €45 million (obviously Barcelona would buy Aguero instead of Alexis Sanchez), a very high salary cap and Aguero's friend Messi it would not be that crazy to see Aguero playing for Barcelona next season.  However, it looks like Barcelona are content with their front line and would rather spend their money a winger in the form of Sanchez.

Real Madrid - the only other Spanish team that is capable of purchasing Aguero.  Again, he would link up well with international teammates Gonzalo Higuain and Angel di Maria.  These young three could create an unstoppable force for many years.  Madrid have already come out an announced that the club would not be pursuing Aguero this summer, but who knows what that means.  In addition, Atletico Madrid would hate selling to the club's bitter rival.

England:

Chelsea - England would be a tough place for Aguero to go because of its tax structure, but because Chelsea has nearly unlimited funds there is a chance the club could work a deal out with him.  In addition, Chelsea is an attractive option because of its quality squad, new coach, Champions League qualification, and location.  There is a good chance that Aguero and Chelsea would be able to come to a compromise on his wages.

Manchester City - City is becoming an increasingly more attractive option for footballers due to the influx of superb talent and Champions League qualification.  City can easily afford Aguero's wage demands (without compromise) as well as his transfer fee.  With Carlos Tevez looking to leave City this summer City could turn to Aguero as his long-term replacement.  Even if Tevez does not leave City could look to bring in Aguero to improve the squad's depth for fielding a squad in Champs League.

The Verdict-

Manchester City will sign Sergio Aguero.  City have the best chance even before selling Tevez, and if Tevez does depart then it is almost a certainty that Aguero will be at City next season.
