The Goose Is Back.
Breaking news, it has take The Goose 21 months to win a golf tournament. Yesterday he won the Iskandar Johor Open, in Malaysia. You may ask what where how. Never mind that. He took home a cool $500 k. This is just the boost Retief Goosen need before the start of the South African Open this month.
The Formula 1 world had to wait until the last corner of the last lap to see who would be crowned as world champion. It was a great race that started late because of a down poor and Charlie Whiting had to give teams time to get a wet set put in place. Philippe Massa raced the race of his life and did what he had to do to try and secure the world championship. Alonso came in second with Massa’s team mate Räikkönen third. With less than 7 laps to go the rain started again and all the front runners did the correct thing and went in for intermediates. Timo Glock stayed out on slicks and after the pit stops ended up in forth. Lewis Hamilton was in fifth and this was enough for him to win the world championship. Then steps up Sebastian Vettel who over took Hamilton with 3 laps to go. Massa crossed the finish line and up until then was going to be the world champion, but with less than 500m to go Glock had slowed down completely which allowed Vettel and Hamilton to pass him, giving Hamilton the world title, making him the youngest world champion at 23 years of age. Apparently Glock is having his new McLaren F1 delivered on Friday morning in the colour of his choice.
In the English Premier League Liverpool came unstuck badly against a very resurgent and confident Tottenham Hot Spur, losing 2-1 in injury time. It seems that Spurs enjoy coming from behind after securing a point against Arsenal by scoring 2 goals in injury time to draw 4-4. Arsenal lost 2-1 to Stoke City, but even more of the loss were the injuries to Adebayor and Walcott. The Gunners take on Manchester United on Saturday and this will be a big test for the struggling team. United were lucky to win 4-3 against high fliers Hull, in what was a cracking game of football. Chelsea beat Sunderland 5-0 to go back to the top of the EPL with 26 points. More importantly they have a goal difference of 23, Liverpool has one of 8.
In the PSL Sundowns went down again to Bay United at home. Chiefs beat AmaZulu 3-0, Royal Zulu lost to Wits and Pirates drew 1-1 with Free State Stars. Cape Town side Ajax beat current champions Super Sport 1-0. Super Sport is still joint top with the Clever Boys and the two sides from the Free State bringing up the rear.
The Bledisloe Cup was played for the first time on Saturday out side of the two home countries in Hong Kong. The Wallabies were the stronger of the two sides on Saturday, but what can we say about the All Blacks and Richie McCaw. They never give up, scoring two tries to win the game 19-14. New Zealand now goes on to try a win a grand slam and Australia take on Italy and France. SAFU have announced that the King Protea will go onto the Jersey with the Springbok. What that means nobody is quite sure.
South Africa took on the Kenyans in a two match one day cricket series and won it comfortably. They now take on Bangladesh before they go on down to take on Australia down under. Australia is still 1-0 down against India after the 3rdtest. Their batting has improved on tour but the bowling department has let them down. If South Africa bowl well and bat with controlled aggression they will stand a very good chance of winning in Australia. Great news for batsmen around the world is the Anil Kumble bit the cricket world farewell.
Anil is the third leading wicket taker of all times. Taking 619 test wickets at an average of 30. He scored 5 test hundreds in 132 test matches and also became only the second bowler in test history when he took 10 wickets in an innings in 1999 the first bowler to achieve this feat was England’s Jim Laker. Anil also took 337 wickets in 271 ODI’s. He was always the gentlemen and off the field and he will be sorely missed on the field. Well done Mr. Kumble!
Until next week, enjoy the sport.
Cheers
ONETIME.
Think beyond the horizon and you will find success!
