Oakland Raiders: Sabotage from the Inside?

Raider Card AddictNov 2, 2008

Oh, the conspiracy theorists will love this—it's so, Raider-like.

Oakland's destruction was ugly yesterday; there's no way to sugar-coat it.

The Raiders' defense was picked apart and couldn't stop the run. Even when they could slow it down, they had an air attack that made them look like a team from the local high school.

Of course, it didn't help that the offense resembled something from 2006, the one run by a bed and breakfast owner.

Now, roll back your thoughts a moment. Do you remember seeing a similar defensive game like this one? Against the Saints, the New Orleans club could throw against us with impunity, lighting up the scoreboard and making the Raiders' defense look silly.

Now, where does the theory fit into this puzzle?

Well, what if Rob Ryan is trying to get back at Al Davis for not hiring him? Maybe somewhere under that white hair is the mind of a lunatic that wants to coach the Raiders, and will stop at nothing to get that position, even if it means letting his team get severely torched.

After all, in each game in which Oakland has been blown out, Ryan was questionable on what sort of play calling had been going on. Against Denver, his plans looked like he was setting up for a scrimmage, not a real game.

The result: Denver blew us out at home.

Against the Bills and Chargers—games the Raiders easily could have won with more offense—our defense couldn't hold out long enough.

The result: 0-2.

Sure, the defense looked good against the Jets. I wouldn't count the win against the Chiefs—it's going to be a long season for them.  But in the games against the Ravens,  Saints, and now the Falcons, it's been ugly straight across the board.

The offense is a mess, but if the defense is being wrecked from within, there's no way the Silver and Black will recover.

I hope I'm wrong. Otherwise, we have our own worst enemy in the camp.
