Looking Ahead to the Green Bay Packers' Second Half

Adam LufranoNov 2, 2008

The Packers just lost to the undefeated Titans, 19-16 in OT. Aaron Rodgers had an average day, but Ryan Grant had a rather good day against a great front four.

Green Bay is tied, at 4-4, for second in the NFC North, behind the 5-3 Bears and with the 4-4 Vikings. Let's look at the positions for the Packers on the first half of the season.

Quarterback (A-)

Rodgers has been playing very well with 13 touchdowns, 1,982 yards, five interceptions, and 65 percent passing. He's looking at a 4,000-yard season if he keeps his game up, but he has to stop fumbling the ball. He's a good quarterback, and he's doing well.

Running Back (B-)

Grant has had a really slow start, but in the last two games, he has shown great potential. He had 4.3 yards per carry and 86 yards overall against the Titans on Sunday. You can't forget the first five games, but it looks like the Ryan Grant from last year is back!

Wide Receiver/Tight End (A)

They are a great five-wide-receiver set. Enough said.

Offensive Line (B-)

Average. They let the Titans front-four get the better of them with pressure all day and four sacks, but they allowed Grant to get four yards per carry. Nothing really to complain about here.

Defensive Line (B)

Maybe a bit more than average. Sacked Kerry Collins twice and held Johnson to 3.8 yards per carry, but White got 9.6 yards per carry.

Secondary (A-)

No interceptions against the Titans, but they held Collins to 180 yards with no touchdowns and didn't let many run plays break for more than 20 yards, sans the one by White.

I think we have a very talented team. Let's look at the rest of the season.

Vikings

Even though the Vikings are at home, the Packers will win this game. W 31-14

Ryan Grant: 90+ yards, 1 TD, 4.5 ypc.

Aaron Rodgers: 200+ yards, 2+ TD, 0 INT.

Bears

This should be when the packers are tied at 5-4 in first for the NFC North because the Bears will lose to the Titans. Look for it to be decided early, not as close as expected. W 24-10.

Ryan Grant: 100+ yards, 1 TD, 5.2 ypc.

Aaron Rodgers: 230+ yards, 2+ TD, 1 INT.

Tough game. Drew Brees will have a good day here, but our secondary should step up, but will it be enough? L 21-24.

Ryan Grant: 95+ yards, 0 TD, 3.7 ypc.

Aaron Rodgers: 200+ yards, 1+ TD, 0 INT.

God, another tough game. Look for the Packers to finally look like the 13-3 team like they did last year. W 34-13.

Ryan Grant: 100+ yards, 2 TD, 4 ypc.

Aaron Rodgers: 300+ yards, 3 TD, 0 INT.

Not to be looked as an easy win, but that's what it'll be on paper. W 44-17.

Ryan Grant: 140+ yards, 1+ TD, 5.1 ypc.

Aaron Rodgers: 300+ yards, 3+ TD, 0 INT.

Before the season, this looked like a loss, but I don't know anymore. They just lost to the Bengals. W 37-24.

Ryan Grant: 80+ yards, 0 TD, 3.6 ypc.

Aaron Rodgers: 170+ yards, 1+ TD, 2 INT.

Bears

We're going to lose. Don't know who, don't know when, but we're going to lose. L 27-31.

Ryan Grant: 100+ yards, 0 TD, 3.8 ypc.

Aaron Rodgers: 200+ yards, 2 TD, 1 INT.

Finally, a true field day! The Lions did fight very close with the Redskins and the Bears, but by this time, the Packers should be able to win and then some. W 41-17.

Ryan Grant: 150 yards, 2 TD, 5.5 ypc.

Aaron Rodgers: 330 yards, 3 TD, 0 INT.

Packers finish 10-6 atop the NFC North, but just barely, with the Bears finishing 9-7. Go Packers!
