November 2nd Weekly Michigan Football Recruiting Update.
I will be starting to write a weekly update about Michigan football recruiting since most of the recruiting sites you have to pay for and many people are unwilling to pay for them. In the article I will give you information about new prospects on Michigan's recruiting board, Michigan prospects who committed to other teams, and upcoming visits for recruits.
Vladimir Emillien is one of the best players in the Florida yet to announce where he is going to play college football. That is going to change later this month as the senior safety from Lauderhill Plantation High School is ready to decide as there are only four schools left in the lottery for his services.
"I will announce my school choice on November 23rd at the high school," Emilien told rivals.com. "I have not set up a time yet. I will decide between four schools: Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio State and Stanford. I will visit Stanford in two weeks. I am looking forward to going out to Stanford and seeing the stadium and what kind of atmosphere they have. I will be there for the USC game."
Emilien has taken official visits to both Wisconsin and Michigan earlier this season along with a visit to Ohio State early in the spring, although Emilien never scheduled a follow up visit after he saw the Buckeyes spring game which surprised many considering how highly he though of it.
Expect it really to come down to Michigan and Wisconsin considering how much Vlad has continually expressed an interest in playing in the Big Ten.
Emilien was looking forward to a strong senior season but was sidelined with a torn ACL but has been working hard and should be in full force for his freshman season.
"Everything is going well. I was surprised how well things are going from the surgery I had. I am ahead of schedule and just getting ready to play college ball next season. I am just getting ready for that."
Michigan's next and final home game is against Northwestern in two weeks and the official visitors list is beginning to fill.
Scottsdale (AZ) Chaparral offensive tackle Taylor Lewan is due in town and he is a big one. Lewan's stock has risen faster than any prospect in the nation after great performances at summer camps and a strong senior season. Lewan is a teammate of current Michigan commit DE Craig Roh and the two continue to talk about playing together in Ann Arbor. With a good visit we could see a commitment from him instead of going to his father's alma mater, Minnesota.
4-star Georgia athlete Donovan Tate will also be in attendance that weekend. Tate has been leaning heavily toward committing to USC after not choosing to enter the MLB draft and this is the Wolverines' last chance to sway him away from the Trojans.
Florida teammates Mywan Jackson and Angelo Hadley are also expected to be in town that week though their trips haven't been officially set, expect those to be set within the week.
I'd like to finish on kicker recruiting. Michigan had the number two kicker in the nation as Anthony Fera committed to the team, but after taking official visits to UofM and PSU and a little research he figured that it would be much more difficult to get into the Michigan business school so he decommitted from the Maize & Blue and committed to Penn State on the same day.
Now the Wolverines are are scrambling to find someone else. Former Michigan kicker Brandon Kornblue, owner of Kornblue kicking School, was on campus this weekend holding another kicking camp that played host to over 33 commitments including many of the standouts of their summer camp.
The standout of this camp was definitely Everett, Mass., kicker Igor Garcia. A late arrival on the recruiting scene Garcia's performance proved that he could turn into one of the best in the country. Although Garcia doesn't hold any offers yet there has been heavy interest from Boston College and will possibly offer soon. Don't expect an offer soon as the Wolverines will take their time evaluating every kicker out there including Florida kicker Brendan Gibbins who starred at the summer camp.
That's all for this week let me know what you thought of it and what I may have not included or need to leave out. Peace I will be back on the ninth.
