UFC 133: Lyoto Machida's Camp Wanted 'Anderson Silva Money' to Face Rashad Evans

Mike HodgesJun 4, 2018

After Phil Davis withdrew from his bout against Rashad Evans at UFC 133, it would only seem fitting that Lyoto Machida would fill that role.

However, after learning of the Brazilian's contract demands, UFC president Dana White quickly turned him down.

According to MMAJunkie.com, Machida initially accepted to compete against Evans after he was told about Davis' injury. Due to stepping in on short notice, Machida's management tried to renegotiate more money following the agreement.

White refused to meet their demands and began looking for a new opponent.

"Machida's people came back and said, 'We'll tell you what. You pay us what you pay Anderson Silva, and we'll take the fight,'"White said.

"I said, 'Are you [expletive] kidding me? I'll tell you what. You tell Machida (if) he achieves what [expletive] Anderson Silva has achieved, then maybe he'll make Anderson Silva money,'" he added.

After declining the bout due to personal issues, Ortiz followed up with the UFC boss regarding the fight and appeared to be re interested. Shortly after, White officially announced that Ortiz would step in to face Evans.

While he is disappointed with Machida's camp, White clarified during a UFC 133 conference call that the late contract demands from the Brazilian's management would not affect his status among the light heavyweight division and he is still in contention for the UFC light heavyweight title.

And considering White's conflicts with certain fighters in the past, Machida just might find himself on the boss' bad side for the time being.
