Browns Backers,

I guess the recent emergency bailout bill that the Senate passed to bail out the failing banks and financial institutions couldn’t have been used for the remainder of the season, because the way the Browns are playing they may need to be rescued, and since Washington D.C. is a restricted airspace, the Browns offense brought its own no-fly zone to our Nation’s Capital.

To paraphrase Plain Dealer scribe, Bud Shaw in a recent article cautioning about the Browns listening too much to the song of overconfidence after their stunning upset over the Giants, I think they gave themselves a serious earache due to having it on replay this past week, I mean how do you go from 454 total yards to 236 in the span of a week? Now I’am not sure if Chud left his playbook in the team hotel but once again his “high powered” offense went from stud to dud with the team falling over itself in a embarrassing thud.

PBB president, Paul Carson said it best, “This was not your typical Browns gaffe!”, and I couldn’t agree with him more, I mean as head scratching and baffling as this game was you would have given yourself a bad case of dandruff from seeing these teams play on Sunday, think about the recent Browns-Bengals game and mix in a skunk convention because both teams stunk!

You had Bad Derek return to full form by going 3-17 at one point of the game, and the Skins being unable to muster anything together, the game went rather fast, and along with the real snore of a bore that was a NFL game(I think!) you had the High School Musical 3 commercial at least that was more entertaining.

You have to wonder if DA is bipolar at this point because he tends to go from good to bad about as fast as the new Porsche goes from 0 to 60, You would hope that his breakout game on MNF would have be a stepping stone and help him gain some consistency for once, but then Bad Derek decided to return and lay a huge offensive turd, c’mon DA you’re a PRO BOWL QB! at this point you either get your shit together or go hold a clipboard and let Brady take some snaps!

Despite both defenses pitching a shutout at halftime, it felt like the Browns lost this game before they even punted, I guess living off the hype of beating the Giants is one thing but in this league you are only as good as your last game you would have at least hoped the Browns would have tried to put together a competent game plan, which they did but as the Browns often do they find a way to mess it up as another opposing RB made himself at home by running thru the paper wall we call a defense, what really hurts is that despite the ineptitude on both sides the Browns STILL had a chance to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

Right now this is gut-check time for Derek Anderson, I’m being real here, on the final drive he missed Bricklon when he was wide-open at least TWICE and don’t get me wrong for ripping into DA solely because Edwards dropped at 6 balls including a couple for critical first downs, one more disturbing thing that we can take from this is that Anderson is very fragile and antsy on the road and once again curled up into his shell, I wasn’t completely sold on DA being back after the Giants game, it was nice and I loved it, but to be a ELITE QB in the NFL you have to be consistent and putting up a 57.9 gas bomb will get you yanked!

With the Browns now at 2-4 and all alone in 3rd place, this is a critical stretch to try and right the ship and go for the wild card, because with the Steelers and Ravens both winning, the North looks like it will be decided but the Browns are only 1 game out of a wild card so they are not out of it yet and with the Jaguars 23rd ranked pass defense looming lets hope Anderson rebounds and the offense gets a clue.

And as I’m sure many of you heard earlier today Pro Bowl OL Gene Hickerson passed away and while some Browns fans might not know who Hickerson is, I’ll just say this: he was the grand-father of offensive linemen as he blocked for the immortal Jim Brown, Leroy Kelly and Bobby Mitchell and NEVER had a losing season in his career.

Hickerson played for the Browns from 1958-60 and from 1962-73, He was a seventh-round draft pick out of Mississippi in 1957. and was inducted in 2007.

Gene Hickerson 1935-2008

Rest in peace, Gene
