nailbiter - “a situation marked by anxiety or tension.”

Browns Backers,

The Browns sure know how to make things interesting huh? After all the drama of Staphgate and the Winslow/Savage family feud going on in the background, you would have never guessed that the Browns would go on the road and win against a team that has historically given them fits did you?

I guess maybe we don’t need Winslow after all and maybe Savage has this GM thing down too because they are actually 2-0 without “The Soldier” and if they continue to play like this using Heiden, Dinkins and Rucker they might as well give him an honorary discharge.

You would have also never guessed that the Browns, as in OUR Browns with the 24th rated QB in the league with Derek Anderson have won three of their last four games and that DA has NOT thrown an INT in his last three? I should rip into him more and wear my Quinn jersey because he is 2-0 when I wear it, first let me share with you the sweet pleasure of the nice and very quiet T ride home back to Brookline wearing my Quinn jersey and every Yinzer looked like they were going home from a wake, and I gave the lone(and very brave!) Giants fan on the T a fist-pound in front of stunned Yinzers priceless!

The Browns continued to run their offense through RB Jamal Lewis as he simply ran right at the Jags for 81 tough yards and a TD, TE Steve Heiden came up with some big plays including a HUGE 51 yard reception on fourth down, what audacity! and I have to give some big ups to mighty midget, WR Syndric Steptoe( hey he’s 5′9!) who is becoming a favorite target of DA in the slot and had a big 53 yard catch and last and NOT least, Bricklon actually caught a couple of balls how about that. Could this be the game that revives the once mythical high flying offense from last year, we shall see but a quality road win over a playoff team can definitely help build some confidence, and now about our defense..WE SUCK!!!

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, DT Shaun Rogers is an animal! he is basically OUR WHOLE defense because McGinest is too old, Wimbley is clueless, both Jackson and Davis need to spend some extra time in Berea with a tacking dummy because they are part of the worst LB corps in the NFL and if it wasn’t for Rogers Hall, and Wright our defense would be getting embarrassed.

This defense gave up some LONG 3rd down conversions making Garrard look like John Elway at times as they even gave up two fourth downs, Rogers continues to make Savage look like a genius with another devastating performance that had nine tackles, a sack and a blocked a field goal and totally dominated the Jags OL, too bad we can’t make more trades with Detroit now that Millen is gone because have any of you seen or even heard from Leigh Bodden this year?

WR Matt Jones absolutely killed the Browns in the passing game with 117 yards receiving and made some great catches as our secondary was being more generous than a movie usher, it certainly looked like Jones was going to singlehandedly beat the Browns by himself only in the end did the Browns man up and escape North Florida with a nail biting, last second high-wire victory when the ball bounced the Browns way for a change.

Maybe this is a sign of things to come who knows but once again the offense continues to sputter in the red zone and could have really put the game well out of reach but coming away with six points as opposed to 14, one of which was at the 2 yard line is enough to irritate any Backer and should raise some red flags, and with the Washington fiasco still in the back of many fans minds, Anderson is going to need to play more consistent for the next month if he wants to silence the Brady whispers.

And maybe Derek could with four out of his next five games at home against Baltimore, Denver, Cinci and Houston, at 3-4 now is the time for the Browns to make a move and put together a serious run for the wild card and even the division is a remote longshot, but with the Steelers losing and about to come into the meat of their schedule, Cleveland now finds themselves two games behind Pittsburgh and one game from the last wild-card spot.

The Browns are finally getting healthy and have a favorable schedule against teams with a combined 16-20 record, Maybe these Dawgs are really ready to hunt.

See you next episode, cause the drama is about to get heavy!
