NFL Bye Week Review: New Orleans Saints Prayers Yet To Be Answered

travis longNov 2, 2008

Once upon a time, there was a team called the Saints who lived in the NFC South. Two years ago, these fellow Saints lost everything. That is until a fairy Godfather named Drew Brees came in and turn their frowns upside down. The hit, bopped, cut and pass their way to the top until the mighty Bears came and shattered them. The off-season came and so everybody in New Orleans went happily ever after...

REALITY CHECK!

The Saints came in last season as favorites to win it all. They had everything; Receivers, Running Backs, an O-Line, and a Quarterback with one of the most beautiful arms in the league. They were ready until life hit them in the head and injuries began piling up.

Now a new season arrived, same old Drew, same old Reggie, same old everything (well only 90% of the team). There where three things to describe The Saints during the preseason;

1. Pro Bowlers Jeremy Shockey and Jonathan Vilma coming to town

2. Injury free team

3. Super Bowl bound

So right now let’s play the before and after game:

Before, Reggie Bush dominates by receiving and running the football, Marques Colston playing the role of "best hands in the division," Deuce McAllister is running loose (again), Shockey is playing lead blocker, and the defense is just showing up

After, Bush is out, Colston seems like he's trying to find God, Deuce was running loose with a few weight loss pills (run fat boy, run), Shockey seems like he's been shocked to death and the defense is still just showing up (thank god for Vilma).

Last week, the Saints were 3-4 in their division and were seeing the playoffs disappear in their hands. A special thanks goes out to ye ole London, for giving the Saints a big push. But hey, who would think the Saints would survive an old shootout against the mighty Chargers team (well, not so mighty now a days, but oh well).

All I can say is well done New Orleans; you have a dynamic quarterback, a two headed running game, and a kind of "cheap but okay" receiving corps. But where’s the defense?!

I mean it’s nice to have a few shootouts at times, but a team needs to use a defense to win as well. I mean you guys better be going to church more often, because the Saints are going to need a lot more praying if they’re going to win and make the playoffs.

But for now, let’s pray that Brees’ arm doesn’t fall off, Deuce and Will Smith don't go anorexic, and Shockey and Vilma don't fall to the injury side (star wars joke ha, ha). Also, Reggie doesn’t make a movie with Kim thus making him lose stamina if you know what I mean. Oh yeah Martin’s leg get well soon.

The New Orleans Saints are bringing the pain and the fans are going insane...Oops wrong team.
