"Closet" Bama Fans Were Never In Style And Never Will Be Part Two
It's that time again. That time when bandwagon fans are at an all time high for the Crimson Tide.
And when I say again...it's really been 16 years so I guess we are long overdue for them.
I decided that the previous article needed to be added onto. Then I realized that there were too many things to just add on so I'm writing a completely separate article.
The Crimson Tide has won nine games. We are completely undefeated. With the LSU game next week I thought it appropriate it educate the bandwagon fans about some rivalries and about a few other things that might want to know before going into Death Valley.
- The pattern that is associated with Alabama Football is called houndstooth. Not "black and white checkered." I realize I said this before. However, the point did not seem to get across so I am just stressing it one more time in hopes that someone will read this and correct someone.
- The Alabama vs. Tennessee game has been played since November 1, 1901. It has been a rivalry that has attracted both teams ever since. Alabama leads overall in winning this game although the Vols did have a 9 year winning streak before Mike Shula broke it in 2005.
- The Alabama vs. Auburn game is called the "Iron Bowl." Not "The Bowl." This game is not something that holds cereal or assorted flavors of ice cream. No, this game is much more and to not make it apparent that you are a bandwagon fan you must be aware that this game is one of the greatest rivalries in college football.
This game is the game where both teams, no matter the record that season, will come out and play their hardest. It was started in 1907 but was suspended until 1948 because of violence and rough play during the game and has been played every year since. Alabama had a nine year winning streak against Auburn in this series in the '60s which is a handy fact when coming across Auburn fans that like to throw the fact that have six wins against us in our face. - Alabama's most dominant color is called crimson. Not cherry and definitely not maroon. We are not Georgia or Mississippi State. There are no cowbells anywhere around Bryant Denny if we can help it at all.
- The voice of the Tide is Eli Gold. There is no other voice like his. It must not be mistaken for anyone else. I can not remember a game I've listened to on the radio where he was not there to announce the Tide and help me to cheer on the Tide even if I wasn't by a tv or at the game.
- "The Third Saturday In October" is referring to the Tide playing against Tennessee. This is not some fancy name we have for Halloween or the 22nd of October. Please look at your calendar for more information than what date the new Grey's Anatomy comes on.
- Jay Barker is a lot more than "Sara Evan's husband." Please people. Learn some history about your football players. Here are some names you need to know: Joe Namath, Jay Barker, Gene Stallings, Kenny Stabler, and Michael Mizerany.
- Julio Jones and Javier Arenas. Their names are pronounced "Hulio Jones and Havier Arenas." Not like how they are spelled. I realize that even some true Bama fans are struggling with this, but please. There names are mentioned frequently. You can do it. Just try real hard and spell it out.
I think this about sums up the things I wanted to cover in this article. Once again, true Alabama fans continue to amaze me everyday. We really are a close knit family no matter whether we know each other when we first meet or not.
As always, I am interested to hear your comments and suggestions.
Roll Tide,
Bama Chick
