WWE Would Be Better with Only One World Title

Jonathan BachJun 3, 2018

A question being overlooked going into Money in the Bank is whether the WWE would be better off having only one world title.

CM Punk looks like he’ll be leaving the company, though there are some reports that negotiations are still ongoing.

So would it be better if he took the WWE title with him?

The WWE has had two major titles for the past few years dating back to when the invasion angle took place. That means that there has been two top spots in the WWE.

The fact that there are two world titles diminishes the legitimacy and importance of winning a major title. There are two chances for a superstar to win a major title in the WWE, while all other companies have only one.

The WWE had only one championship and it made the company and shows interesting. There was only one WWE Tag Team championship. There was an Intercontinental championship and a European championship.

And this set-up worked for many years.

You could even argue that the WWE shouldn’t have brand separation. The WWE should be one brand competing on both shows.

If you had one brand of superstars competing on both shows, you can build up story lines better and boost ratings for Smackdown. People would want to tune into Smackdown to make sure they can follow the story lines that take place on Raw.

So it would be beneficial to the WWE to keep only one brand and have superstars compete on both shows. And it would also help WWE in terms of their budget. Their roster won’t have to be as big as it is now. They can decrease their roster by at least 30 percent. The superstars in the WWE will get more TV time, thereby becoming more popular.

I could be wrong though. You could argue it makes it harder to get into the WWE so there will be a lot of good stars left out of the company.

But shortening the roster and keeping only one major title will make everything more legitimate. It will show that it’s not easy to win the WWE’s major title and it’s not easy to get on the roster.

And if you think about it, John Cena would not be a 10-time world champion if there was only one title.
