No Offense Gives Ole Miss a Strong Victory

michael sasserNov 1, 2008

Auburn left Oxford still asking the question, why did we ever change offensive  schemes and why did we throw it out the window so fast. I am sure many Auburn fans had their questions when Auburn came out with their new offensive look on opening day. However, I can remember hearing fans and analyst actually raving about the new look. I also felt that this might be the right move for them.

Head Coach Tommy Tuberville knew he was in danger of having a terrible season because they had failed to  recruit a good running back. Yes, they had Brad Lester but the other guys they would have to depend on in case Lester went down were not proven. This offense was going to allow Coach Tuberville to spread the ball around and keep teams guessing. Tuberville thought this would at least make for good season and maybe even a slim chance to make a run for the SEC title. However, he gambled on Cody Burns being able to learn such a complex offense and he was highly mistaken. Please, do not get me wrong. I believe Burns is a good Power I formation quarterback and he can scramble but do not ask him to read a complex defense and he has proved a simple single read can be a challenge to him. We all know Tuberville is know as the "Riverboat Gambler" but he as most definitely lost this gamble.

Tuberville had a slight chance of getting the money guy from Auburn off his back with a good win today and if he could beat Alabama then he would still be on the Plains again next year. However, Tuberville took his Tigers over to a field full of Rebels and they shot all hopes of what I just explained in the last since to the devil. I agree Tuberville is a good man and he has done a good job at Auburn but time for change is at hand. I can assure you after or maybe before the Alabama game he will resign. If he was thinking smart, he would take the six million and go enjoy retirement life. However, I am sure he will pop up somewhere and try to prove he still can win the Big Game!

I hoped Auburn would have found their guts and played hard for their coach but maybe they are ready for change to. I mean he let go his offensive coordinator in the middle of the season with a family to feed. At least Tuberville will be given until the end of the year to show he knows how to coach! Oh! That's right, he is a defensive guy and not a offensive minded coach. So, to all you Auburn fans, even though the lost today still left you scratching your head but it will not be long before change hits the Plains!
