Arsène Wenger: Is His Era Over?

Callum D'SouzaNov 1, 2008

Having somehow drawn with Tottenham 4-4, despite being 3-1 up, and then 4-2 up, and losing to the likes of Fulham 1-0, Hull city 2-1, and Stoke 2-1 in the Premiership, you can't help but ponder: is Wenger's era over.

No doubt Wenger has worked wonders for Arsenal. He is a tactical magician, who helped Arsenal win trophies, create fantastic players, and turn Arsenal into one of the most dominant teams in Europe. But, Arsenal has yet to win a trophy in three years. Maybe its time to look elsewhere for another coach.

Many will disagree, but a new coach could be the breakthrough; it could even be some unknown coach from Asia, Africa, or the North and South Americas.

There are options like Carlos Queiroz, who was Alex Ferguson's assistant manager for four years and is now the head coach for the Portugal national side. Queiroz, I think, would be a great coach for Arsenal. After having coached Real Madrid and learning from Alex Ferguson, he would be a great option.

Guus Hiddink would also make a fine coach for Arsenal. He has moulded international-sided Australia into a dominant team in 2006. He was the main reason they qualified for Germany 2006 World Cup. Guus Hiddink is currently coaching the Russian national team, and he got them all the way to the semi-finals.

Guus Hiddink is, no doubt, a genius. He could be a really good fit for Arsenal; plus, he is filled with 26 years of top coaching experience.

Other suitable coaches could be Ruid Guilt, Johan Cruijiff, Micheal Plantini, Frank Rijkaard, Jacques Santini, and Alain Boghossian. There are doubtless many more who could fill the position well.

Another option would be to keep Wenger and elevate him to President or somewhere high up in the board, this means we get to keep the tactical genuis and hire a really good coach.

Many will disagree, as I said before, but a new coach could be just what Arsenal needs to go forward and win trophies and hopefully become the best team in Europe.
