UFC 132: Carlos Condit, His Teammates and Trainers Discuss His Illness

Andrew BarrJul 7, 2011

During Carlos "The Natural Born Killer" Condit's post-fight interview with Joe Rogan at UFC 132, Joe revealed that Carlos had been very sick a couple weeks before the fight and was almost forced to pull out of the match due to his illness.

In this video, Condit returns to training and talks with some of his training partners about his illness.

"My stomach was all f**ked up, bro." Condit told teammate Melvin Guillard, "The first couple days, I was throwing up. My stomach hurt, bad. I couldn't sleep at night."

After discussing his illness with Guillard, Condit addressed the camera specifically to give a more elaborate explanation of the health issues he was having

"This is my first day back training since probably last Friday, so it's been seven days", Carlos said. "I went to a friend's wedding in Vegas last weekend, and I'm not exactly sure whether I ate something, or whether I picked some up, but I got really sick. I was throwing up for a few days and I was pretty messed up. I wasn't really able to eat or train for quite a while."

Condit's coach Greg Jackson also explained the situation.

"Carlos got pretty severe food poisoning, or stomach flu, or something," Jackson explained. "Anyway, it was so bad we were contemplating cancelling just because he was really, really sick. He lost some weight, he was not able to train and we're really close to the fight, so that's really dangerous. So, we'll see how it goes and if he starts improving, we'll keep him in."

Condit's first day back training went relatively well.

"Training was okay; it was better than expected. Now, I just gotta get back on track and get feeling better," Condit said, seemingly happy with his first day back in the gym.

Carlos' trainers were very impressed with his efforts on his first day back, saying that he gave "110 percent."

It's clear that "The Natural Born Killer" was able to get his training back on track for his fight with Dong Hyun Kim at UFC 132, as he won the fight convincingly by first-round TKO.
