Fantasy Football Week 9 Rankings: Defenses

Michael WhooleyOct 31, 2008

Here we go people. Week 9 is here. The half-way mark to the NFL season and we are in the middle of a tight Fantasy Football playoff run as well I hope. This week we will be continuing the +/- for turnovers for teams to help give you a better advantage at predicting what a team will be doing as a whole in their respective games this week. Before we head into the article, I would like to explain the “Bruno Boys Star System”.

BRUNO BOYS DEFENSIVE STAR SYSTEM

4-Stars (* * * *) – Bruno Boys Very Solid Plays of the Week

Key Abbreviations: YPG (Yards Per Game); PPG (Points Per Game)

------------------------

1. (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) @ Kansas City Chiefs

Tampa Bay leads all of the defenses this week for the Bruno Boys as they have an extremely favorable matchup against Kansas City who have scored an average of only 14.1 PPG. Tampa Bay has allowed only 15 PPG and are sitting with 15 takeaways, 12 via INT. They should do very well this week.

2. (Philadelphia Eagles) @ Seattle Seahawks

Philadelphia who has 15 takeaways and a total of +7 for turnovers takes on a weak Seattle offense who have turned the ball over 11 times as well as they are sitting at -4 on turnovers. The Eagles are fairly solid defensively so this should turn out to be a heck of a matchup for them defensively.

------------------------

3. (Baltimore Ravens) @ Cleveland Browns

The Ravens take on the Browns in a matchup of the old vs. the new as the Ravens used to be the Browns. Just some interesting knowledge in case you did not know. Baltimore is allowing only 15.7 PPG and Cleveland puts up only 16.4 PPG so the Browns should be held under 20 points. The Ravens are an excellent play this week.

------------------------

4. (New York Giants) vs. Dallas Cowboys

In what would normally be a pretty tough matchup for the Giants all of a sudden turns into one that may not be that bad. The Giants are dominant defensively and are taking on a Cowboys team who will be led by conservative QB Brad Johnson. The Giants will be a very good play this week.
Bruno Boys Stars: * * * *

------------------------

5. (Tennessee Titans) vs. Green Bay Packers

Tennessee is sitting at the top of team defensive charts allowing only 12.4 PPG this year. They take on a very solid Green Bay offense led by Aaron Rodgers, Greg Jennings and Ryan Grant. A great defense usually beats a very good offense and that is what we are expecting this week. Tennessee does have 16 takeaways but Green Bay protects the ball well.
Bruno Boys Stars:  * * * *

------------------------

6. (Pittsburgh Steelers) @ Washington Redskins

The outstanding Pittsburgh Defense visits a very solid Washington offense for what should be a very entertaining game on both sides of the ball. Most of the Redskins offense is based around the threat of Clinton Portis whom the Steelers should tie up this weekend. Washington has not thrown an INT this year so that could change as well.
Bruno Boys Stars: * * * *

------------------------

7. (Chicago Bears) vs. Detroit Lions

The Chicago Bears have given up 21.4 PPG and Detroit has scored only 16.3 PPG so the score should remain fairly reasonable against the Bears. What intrigues me is that the Bears have 16 takeaways and Detroit has coughed up the ball 9 times for what should make the Bears a very solid play this week.
