Alabama Football: Will Dee Hart's Injury Make Transferred Running Backs Rethink?

Larry BurtonJun 7, 2018

It was reported Tuesday and confirmed byย Bama On Lineย that Dee Hart, a freshman running back at the University of Alabama, tore his anterior cruciate ligament or ACL in voluntary summer work outs during seven on seven drills.

As it appears, Hart will have to have immediate surgery and be out for the rest of the year rehabbing that injury. This is an injury that some players never fully recover from and some do. Most feel that Hart will recover from this injury, but such thing do take time. Lots of it.

Many had thought that Hart had a great shot of securing not only the No. 3 running back slot this season as a freshman, but getting some playing time as well.

Between spring and now, two running backs who saw their chances of playing time diminished by the explosiveness of Hart, chose to transfer to other schools rather than be buried in in Alabama deep running back depth chart.

They were Corey Grant, who committed to the Tide in 2010 and has now left for Auburn and senior Terry Goode, who will go to the University of North Alabama.

It would be interesting now to know that if these players had waited a bit longer to decide to leave, if they would now with Hart going for at least one season.

This injury along with the above mentioned transfers leave that running back stable, that was the best in college football at the start of spring ball, now a good deal thinner.

That puts sophomore Jalston Fowler as a much clearer third string back now and a lot of people that even most Tide fans won't know if they heard their names.

Both Grant and Goode are fine running backs and right now Alabama fans and dare I say the coaches as well would like to have at least one or the other back. The question that I would love to know the answer to is are the players who transferred now wishing they were back just as badly?
