In the case of McNair - the son of the former NFL and Alcorn State star - he moved from his grandmother’s home in Mount Olive to his mother’s house in Oak Grove some 40 minutes to the south. “Things in Mount Olive weren’t going so good, so I just thought it was time for a new start,” Steve Jr. said. “I feel like I’ll be better off at a bigger school with more college coaches looking at you.” Whatever McNair’s given reasons for transferring, Olive Branch principal Kyle Brigance - a former football coach who’s heard his share of complaints as the Quistors program has grown in stature - knows some people will believe what they want. “When you’re losing, you get move-ins,” Brigance said, “and when you’re winning, now you’re getting recruits.”…………..Mount Olive is led by quarterback Julius McNair, Dandy Dozen running back Jason McNair, and receiver Steve McNair, Jr………………..Freshman quarterback Steve McNair, the son of NFL star Steve McNair, is slated to be the starter for the Pirates………………….Strongest Bloodline Award Mount Olive quarterback Steve McNair, Jr. (Yep, he’s his son) could make an immediate impact for the Pirates, who reached the Class 1A state championship game last season. After transfer, he participated in last week and half of spring ball, by the end of spring ball was receiving quality amount of reps lining up at both outside receiver positions, came up big in 7 on 7 tournaments and league. Had a good Reebok Stack Elite Tour showing. Had a really good Texas Mini-Camp particularly in 1 on 1 drills. Great pick up for the Birdville Hawks! |

| One of the top junior skill athletes in the Cleveland area……………He transferred from Glenville to South for his junior year……………..Junior Brandon Walston is a transfer from Cleveland Glenville (yes, it goes both ways every now and then) and Gibson is very excited about what he might be able to bring to the team. “Walston is electric, he’s phenomenal,” Gibson said. “We got him from Glenville. I didn’t even know anything about the kid except that he played on muni league field near us. He showed up for our workout one day and I said, ‘Who is this kid?’ Devontae was working out for college coaches and Brandon started running routes. Brandon has been timed at 4.5 in the 40 and he can be special. He’s very elusive.”…………….Concerns: Finding a replacement for graduated RB Brian Jackson and getting a consistent passing game going with Sanders, Brown and Glenville transfer Brandon Walston |
