Minnesota Twins Injury Update: July 4, 2011

Tom SchreierJun 1, 2018

Injuries have been the story of the season for the Twins.

"You can’t do anything about it," says manager Ron Gardenhire. "When they get healthy you figure out how to get them into the lineup and go from there. We’re not very close with a bunch of these guys, really."

Before their July 4 contest against Tampa Bay, head athletic trainer Rick McWane addressed the media regarding their injury situation.

He addressed the situation of four players: Delmon Young, Jason Kubel, Denard Span and Justin Morneau.

Delmon Young

1 of 4

Injured against Milwaukee on June 25, Delmon Young is playing again for the Twins AAA club in Rochester.

McWane says he will DH for the Red Wings.

Young is hitting .256 with eight doubles and two home runs in 55 games for the Twins.

Jason Kubel

2 of 4

Jason Kubel has not played since May 30 in Detroit and is currently on the 15-day disabled list.

"Kubel is still experiencing discomfort in his foot so we decided to bring him back," said McWane. "He’s going to fly back to Minnesota this afternoon and be evaluated by our doctors tomorrow."

Kubel is batting .310 with 14 doubles, one triple and five home runs in 52 games played.

Denard Span

3 of 4

Denard Span appears to be making good progress.

"Denard had a better day today," said McWane. "He’s hitting in the cage, out running around, playing long-toss. It’s good that he’s feeling better."

Currently Ben Revere is leading off. As Span gets closer speculation is certain to ensue regarding the team's table setters.

Span is batting .294 with nine doubles, three triples and two home runs in 56 games with the Twins.
