Michael WhooleyOct 30, 2008

With Halloween just a day away, the slasher flicks have been playing non-stop. But, Freddy and Jason, those guys aren't scary. Nope, I'll tell you what's really frightening...Starting and sitting the wrong guys on your fantasy football team! So, be sure to check out the Week Nine Start Em & Sit Em

QUARTERBACKS - START 'EM

David Garrard (Jacksonville Jaguars) @ Cincinnati

The Cincinnati Bengals are still clinging to a top-10 spot among pass defenses, ranking eighth in the league in passing yards allowed; however, they have been slipping of late, as opposing quarterbacks have figured out how to beat them.

No where is that more evidenced than in the fact that 10 of the 13 passing TDs allowed by the Bengals this season have been thrown during the team's last four games.

While the Bengals' pass D has taken a turn for the worst of late, Garrard has resurrected his season. Garrard has four straight double-digit fantasy performance, and as Bruno Boy Cory pointed out in the Week Nine Quarterback Rankings, Garrard hasn't thrown an interception in 140 pass attempts. He should keep both streaks alive in this one.

Chad Pennington (Miami Dolphins) @ Denver

Speaking of streaks, Pennington has a nice little one of his own going, as the Dolphins' quarterback has put up 13+ points in four straight games. Pennington, who has benefited from the confusion caused by the "Wildcat" offense, has a very favorable matchup in Week Nine, as he gets to face a Denver Broncos' pass defense that is giving up 240.0 passing yards per game and has allowed opposing QBs to throw for 12 TDs, while intercepting just two passes all season long. We think it's safe to say the streak continues.

QUARTERBACKS - SIT 'EM

Jason Campbell (Washington Redskins) vs. Pittsburgh

It's funny how an opponent can change the fantasy value of a player. Last week, with a matchup against the Detroit Lions, Campbell was a must start. That happens when you're facing the 31st ranked pass defense in the league. This week, though, Campbell battles the No. 1 ranked pass defense in the league in the Pittsburgh Steelers, and when you're going against a team that's given up just 164.4 passing yards per game and less than one TD per game, you become a must sit.

Derek Anderson (Cleveland Browns) vs. Baltimore

Despite the amazing Monday night performance that Anderson had against the New York Giants back in Week Six, the Browns' quarterback hasn't quite yet regained his magic from last season. Judging by the numbers Anderson put up in the Browns' first meeting with the Ravens this season, it doesn't look like he'll be regaining it in Week Nine.

In that matchup, Anderson threw for just 125 yards and one TD, while turning the ball over a total of four times.
