Wimbledon 2011 Results Not Televised Live

The semifinal round of the women's draw wrapped up this morning as Maria Sharapova knocked off Sabine Lisicki 6-4, 6-3 but not a single person in the United States was able to watch the event live on their television.

ESPN has been airing morning coverage of the Wimbledon Championships so far this tournament, but it failed to air one of the women's semifinal matches today.

As many people around the country flipped to ESPN2's coverage of Wimbledon this morning, they would have noticed a match from yesterday being aired.

ESPN opted to re-air the match of Roger Federer vs. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga instead of the live match going on between Sharapova and Lisicki, who became this year's breakout star.

While it appears that NBC will be airing the women's semifinals this afternoon, the matches have already been played and most Americans will know the results before they are aired on television. With that in mind, many people will not tune in to watch the match as they already know the result.

This is extremely disappointing, as we all had a chance to watch Sharapova continue her quest for a second Wimbledon title and continue to dominate matches.

To date in the 2011 Wimbledon Championships, Sharapova has yet to drop a set and has dropped just 20 games in her last four matches.

She will enter the final as the favorite, but unfortunately for tennis fans around the country, they were unable to watch her defeat Lisicki and move on to her first appearance in the finals at the All England Club since she won in 2004.
