WWE CvC 2.0: Alex Riley Is the Best Superstar Yet to Hold a Secondary Title

Subject: Best WWE Superstar Yet to Hold a Secondary Title

There have been many complaints among the IWC about superstars who aren't being pushed properly or being pushed at all. Names like Evan Bourne, Kofi Kingston and Drew McIntyre come up in countless forums regarding very talented second-tier superstars.

But there is a hidden jem, a diamond in the ruff if you will, that exists in the WWE and his name is Alex Riley.

It was a tough decision for me to make as I really wanted to pick Alberto Del Rio. But there is one reason why I didn't and it has to do with the PG programming: marketability, which I will talk about later on.

This guy has it all. He's got the babyface look, great in-ring work and excellent mic skills. His storyline with The Miz has benefited him in two ways:

  1. Everything he has learned was from The Miz, one of the most improved superstars on the roster.
  2. After ditching The Miz, he has gained a huge group of fans.

What makes Riley even more amazing is that he has taken what he learned from The Miz, a heel, and put his own taste to it and succeeded as a face. You would think working for several months with one of the top heels in the business would be hard to transition from. But with a well orchestrated beatdown to his ex-boss, Riley is one of the top faces on Raw.

The charisma is there as well. Every single time he walks down the ring, I see John Cena in his eyes. Can he become the next "face of the WWE?"

Hell to the yeah! But of course you have to start somewhere and in the WWE it is usually with a secondary title like the U.S title or the Intercontinental title.

I see Riley winning the title sometime between now and Survivor Series. At the very latest, he will be involved in a secondary title match at WrestleMania 28. Clearly he is being pushed with high expectations and a secondary title will help build his credibility to the inevitable day when he becomes the WWE champion.

Think about it this way: Who better to be the first person to beat John Cena cleanly, win the title, have Cena turn heel in the process and then become the new "face of the WWE?"

Vince has nothing to worry about because Riley can be a very marketable person. Guys like Cody Rhodes, Ted DiBiase or Alberto Del Rio would be hard to pass the torch to, but Riley is already in a position to be pushed towards the kids and women, which to my dismay, makes up most of the crowds at WWE events today.

Alex Riley. The new face on the block. And the best superstar yet to hold a secondary title.

Look at Sam Masad's competition's piece here.
