WWE: The 5 Best Matches in RAW Roulette History

Robert AitkenJun 27, 2011

For just the fourth time in the show's history, tonight's episode of RAW will be managed by the spin of a wheel. RAW Roulette was an idea that was hatched in 2002, repeated in 2003, and was defunct until last year's revival of the idea.

The shows over the years have given us awesome TLC and steel cage matches, while also giving us dance contests and cross-dressing superstars.

We can't always say that RAW Roulette is always a winning show, but it certainly is never boring. While the Viewer's Choice/Power to the People-type shows are often doomed to fail based on a lack of quality choices, at least RAW Roulette will always (at least seem like) the fate of the wheel being spun is the reason that the match takes place.

Will we see more memorable moments and more moments we wish we could forget? Before tonight's RAW Roulette, let's recap the history of the event.

2002: Booker T vs Big Show (Steel Cage Match)

1 of 5

RAW Roulette was born in 2002 with Eric Bischoff as general manager of the brand.

RAW Roulette was one of his finest ideas at the time and he was very excited to spin the wheel. Bischoff spins the wheel for the opening contest and it ends up being a steel cage match.

Booker T and Big Show square off in the cage to begin the night. Big Show has a chance to leave the cage, but stays to dish out more punishment.

Booker T ends up escaping the cage in a very good match, especially for an opening bout on an episode of RAW. After the match, Chris Jericho beats up Booker T and makes him bleed.

Jericho would later be interviewed to say that he is being disrespected and wouldn't take it anymore.

2002: Al Snow vs Test (Las Vegas Street Fight Match)

2 of 5

Al Snow would debut on the RAW brand that night after training on Tough Enough III. His opponent would be Test, who also knew his way around weapons.

This is why Snow and Test would be on a great hardcore match labeled as a Las Vegas Street Fight match.

From the classic trash cans and street signs to Al Snow's bowling ball, this was a solid hardcore match that you won't see nowadays.

2002: 4-Way TLC Match

3 of 5

I still love this TLC match because it was on free TV and had a lot to entertain you with. Kane and The Hurricane came out as tag champs but only one would leave with the belts.

The Hurricane would seriously be injured in the match, meaning that Kane would have to finish the match alone. The design of the match did not include Hurricane being lost in the match, so major props go to the seven men in this match to rewrite the script and put on a classic.

Also, how many times have you seen the tag team titles defended in the main event and the world champion NOT being in the match?

2003: Lita vs Victoria (Steel Cage Match)

4 of 5

WWE can certainly answer our prayers from time to time and offer us some awesome matches. Lita and Victoria faced off in 2003 at RAW Roulette in a steel cage match, a rarity in women's wrestling.

I wish we had creative people to book matches like these. I also wish we had Divas who could pull this off.

2010: John Morrison vs Sheamus (Falls Count Anywhere)

5 of 5

This was one of the best matches in WWE last year. Sheamus and John Morrison had a great Falls Count Anywhere match that played into their long rivalry last year.

It was probably one of the best matches in the career for either match. A match like this tonight would rival Randy Orton and Christian from Over The Limit as a match of the year candidate.
