Rangers Continue Rolling

Vinny MadioOct 29, 2008

The New York Rangers are not taking anything for granted and getting as many points as they can early, because they count the same at the end.  Even starting this season over seas couldn't slow this team down.  They have three losses in the season, with one of them coming in overtime to the defending champion Red Wings and the other two coming from speedy Buffalo and Avery's Stars.

There have been other close ones and hiccups along the way, especially when they played the Penguins, who knocked them out last year in the second round. The Rangers scored in the final seconds to take that game to overtime and eventually a shootout, only to have Lundy stop Crosby to win the game and steal a huge two points.

Overall, the Rangers are 9-2-1 with 19 points, which leads the league. They have played close to three games more than everyone in the league, but it doesn't matter.  As long as they win, it puts pressure on the other teams in the conference to match them.

With teams like Pittsburgh and Jersey in their division, they have to continue to stay strong.  Not to mention, the tough games they will get from hated rivals, Islanders and Flyers.  The team has a great mixture of players and leaders, young and old.  But, the one thing they need to do is stay constant, and especially come playoff time.

If the past three seasons have told us anything, it is that Lundy is just getting better and better, and this might be the year he goes into the category with Brodeur and Luongo.  Hes off to a 7-2 start and has a goals against average under two.  If Lundqvist stays healthy, he will be right in line for the Vezina again, and will lead the Rangers into the playoffs.

But that's not enough for Tom Renney and these Rangers.  They want to go past the second round this year.  They want this story, which started in Prague this year, and to end the story next October, where hopefully they will be raising a banner and celebrating what they accomplished.  To get to that dream ending next October, they are going to need a lot of things going for them, but one thing is for sure.  The Rangers will go as far as Lundqvist can take them, and hopefully this year, Lundy is ready to be the true King of New York and take the Vezina and hoist that Stanley Cup.
