UFC on Versus 4 Results: Video of Nik Lentz's Face After Illegal Knee

Nick CaronJun 26, 2011

During the undercard on Facebook Nik Lentz lost his first UFC fight to the debuting veteran fighter Charles Oliveira. After rocking Lentz, Oliveira quickly applied a rear naked choke and was able to secure a submission victory.

But controversy arose when it was very obvious that Oliveira landed a knee to the eye of his downed opponent, Lentz. Under the unified rules of mixed martial arts, this knee is defined as illegal. Somehow, though, the referee did not see or did not understand that the knee was illegal and allowed the fight to continue.

After the fight, MMADiehards.com got video of Lentz talking about the knee, showing the awful damage it caused to his right eye.

"It kind of rocked me pretty good," Lentz said of the knee. "And after that, I was kind of out for a second."

Given that Lentz has been fighting and training for UFC rules, he obviously was not expecting that knees would be utilized in the fight from the ground.

"If we were fighting with knees, I would've rolled backwards. But we're not," he continued. "The UFC has a certain amount of rules and I've been fighting in the UFC for a long time now. You train for those rules. I was just trying to get in close to him and he took the opportunity to knee me in the face."

"It's the same concept as if I was on top and I just started gouging his eyes out or something. You can't do it."

No word yet on whether the fight will be overturned to a no contest or even if Lentz may be given the win by disqualification.
