UFC on Versus 4: Predicting Who Will Win Fight, Submission and KO of the Night
Nate Marquardt is out of his fight with Rick Story, but UFC Live on Versus 4 still promises plenty of exciting fights on Sunday night at the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Charlie Brenneman has stepped in to replace Marquardt, so welterweight contender Rick Story will still be competing on the card. Also, two heavyweight fights bolster the main card as Matt Mitrione looks to continue to success against Christian Morecraft and Cheick Kongo will go toe-to-toe with fellow kickboxer Pat Barry.
The card will also be stacked deep with one of the most intriguing preliminary cards of 2011. A few fighters competing on the wildly popular Facebook stream will be Tyson Griffin, Manny Gamburyan, Joe Stevenson, Joe Lauzon and Charles Oliveira.
Here are some predictions for fight of the night, submission of the night and knockout of the night.
Fight of the Night: Cheick Kongo vs. Pat Barry
1 of 3At first glance, this matchup would appear to be more of a knockout of the night candidate than anything, but it is equally likely that this fight could go to an exciting decision.
Both Cheick Kongo and Pat Barry are accomplished strikers with knockout power, but both fighters also have solid chins capable of absorbing punishment from the other for 15 minutes.
Kongo might look to take this fight to the ground, but there are sure to be some exciting exchanges along the way.
Submission of the Night: John Howard
2 of 3In his six fights with the UFC, John Howard has become more well-known for the power in his hands than his submission prowess. However, Howard will have a golden opportunity to put his grappling on display against Matt Brown.
Although his last two wins have come by way of knockout, Howard does have six submission victories in his 20 MMA fights. Meanwhile, Brown has tapped in his last three fights, and eight of his 10 career losses have come via submission.
Look for Howard to become the fourth straight fighter to submit Brown, who will most likely be released from the UFC after this fight.
Knockout of the Night: Rick Story
3 of 3A ton of respect goes to Charlie Brenneman for taking a fight against one of the best welterweights in the world on such short notice, but there is little chance he is going to be able to go the distance with Rick Story.
This fight is an excellent opportunity for Brenneman, but he should consider his performance a victory if he is even able to take Story to a decision.
Story has the wrestling to dictate where this fight takes place and the power in his hands to end it in devastating fashion.
