Portland Trail Blazers: Game One—Dang...
Game One of of the Portland Trail Blazers 2008-09 season was like taking the woman of your dreams out on your first date, and the date turns into a disaster.
Nothing you say or do impresser her. It is clear from her mannerisms that she has better things to do. It is obvious she is out of your league.
It is obvious she is only hanging our with you as "friends" to be nice.
The action movie you took her to sucks.
The restaurant has good service, and she flirts with the bartender in front of you.
At the end of the date, she shakes your hand and says "Thanks."
You have waited over a YEAR for this night. Everything you hoped for and dreamed up has blown up in your face and will haunt you forever.
That was what THIS GAME ONE was LIKE. It was TERRIBLE. An UNFORGETTABLE EMBARRASSMENT.
Do not get me wrong, The Lakers CLEARLY have a championship team and they were out to make a statement. BUT...we were supposed to come prepared for that. We were supposed to put up a fight. We were supposed to have Greg Oden.
Instead, we get the worst blowout since the OPENING NIGHT of the FRANCHISE back in the 1970s. Instead, we let the Lakers, our dreaded nemesis, give us the biggest regular season blowout in their arena EVER. Instead, we make Kobe Bryant look like a GOD.
There is a great line in Shakespeare's Henry V, where the French General, upon seeing that their French Army has lost France to England, says, "Shame, shame, and eternal shame..."
Or something like that.
My point is, this was a game EVERYONE in Portland WAITED a YEAR FOR and all we got was SHAME.
We will see what happens on Friday night. Personally...I'm TREMBLING.
And hanging my head.
BUT...as time goes on I will forgive The Blazers. I always do.
Go Blazers.
