Wimbledon 2011: 3 Future Stars That We'll See at All England Club
The 2011 Wimbledon Championships are well underway and there are many rising stars who are making their presence felt at this year's event.
While Wimbledon will boast the usual cast of stars including Roger Federer, the Williams' Sisters, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic, there are many rising stars in the world of tennis that we will also get a chance to see.
There are many professional tennis players that are ready to break out and become stars and eventually overtake the current stars of the game.
Here are a few players who have not yet become household names, but are well on their way to becoming elite tennis players.
Sabine Lisicki
1 of 3Sabine Lisicki was once rank the No. 22 player in the world, but found herself ranked outside the top 100 after injuries and failing to qualify for the 2010 US Open.
She has recently regained her form and won her second WTA Title when she defeated Daniela Hantuchová in the AEGON classic.
Lisicki has proven that she can compete against the elite tennis players as she defeated Li Na in the second round of the Wimbledon Championships.
She also had a shot at defeating Vera Zvonareva in the French Open, as she had a match point in the third set, but dropped four set games to lose.
She is still extremely young, at just 21 years of age, she still has room to develop and could easily find herself ranked in the top ten at some point in the coming year.
Gael Monfils
2 of 3Gael Monfils is currently the No. 8 ranked player on tour, but is overshadowed by players like Nadal, Federer, Djokovic, and Andy Roddick.
Monfils is one of the premier players in the world, and will be looking to prove it at the All England Club.
He is only 24 years of age, but has yet to make much of an impact in a major tournament. His best finish in a major was at the 2008 French Open when he reached the semifinals.
However, Monfils has failed to advance past the third round at Wimbledon. Monfils defeated Grega Zemlja in the second round of this year's event in four sets and is through to the third round.
He will be looking to finally emerge as the star that the French have been looking for since he emerged onto the tennis scene.
Ryan Harrison
3 of 3Ryan Harrison is a 19-year-old American from Louisiana who is making his first appearance at the Old England Club.
He is looking to become the next American tennis star, and has proven early in his career that he has a lot of potential.
While he is 3-8 so far in 2010-11, he has a lot of potential and was able to win his first round match at Wimbledon against Ivan Dodig in straight sets including a 6-0 second set.
In the second round, Harrison is facing No. 7 seed David Ferrer and will be looking to make strides toward becoming the face of American tennis.
Harrison will become the face of American tennis and his match against Ferrer could prove that he has a future as a tennis star.
