NFL Trade Talk: Kevin Kolb for Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie Unlikely To Happen

Tony SantorsaJun 24, 2011

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Kevin Kolb is among a list of quarterbacks that are likely to be on the move once free agency begins. However, Kolb may not be heading to the Arizona Cardinals—a team who desperately needs a starting quarterback.

One of the more popular trades that has been stated as a possibility is Cardinals cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie being shipped off to Philly in return for Kolb. However, this should be considered extremely unlikely.

Darren Urban, a writer for the official Arizona Cardinals website, believes that the Cards have now solidified their top three cornerbacks and would rather stay away from trading Rodgers, Patrick Peterson or Greg Toler.

On paper, the Cardinals and Eagles appear to be a perfect match to make a trade—the Cardinals need a quarterback and the Eagles need a cornerback. However, Arizona certainly may feel inclined to hold onto Rodgers, Peterson and Toler.

Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk believes that the potential Rodgers-Cromartie for Kolb trade "isn't going anywhere," and I might add that Kolb will probably not be a Arizona Cardinal in 2011.

Kolb is arguably the best available quarterback, and there are plenty teams that are going to be interested once the NFL lockout is lifted—a few teams that come to mind are the Miami Dolphins, Seattle Seahawks and the Washington Redskins.

Arizona, on the other hand, will still have a shot at grabbing a new starting quarterback even if they deny any trade involving Kolb. In a recent report, Denver Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton was seen working out with Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, and to me, Orton would be an ideal fit in Arizona.

Despite all of the trade rumors flying around the NFL, there is no real meaning to them, as none of these trades can be completed until the lockout is over.

However, once free agency begins, expect more and more Kolb rumors to be soaring through the rumor mill.
