Week 9 Pickups

Hot Stove New YorkOct 28, 2008

Quarterbacks

Seneca Wallace (Seahawks) - Wallace made his second straight start with Matt Hasslebeck out with a back injury. The former Cyclone completed 15-of-22 passes for 222 yards and two TDs against the 49ers. Consider Wallace a deep pickup in leagues that start two quarterbacks.

Shaun Hill (49ers) - Hill replaced starter J.T O’Sullivan, who turned the ball over three times before halftime. Interim coach Mike Singeltary  named Hill the starter in Week 10 against the Cardinals. Hill completed 15-of-23 passes for 173 yards and a TD in the second half against the Seahawks. Last year he started three games in December and completed 68% of his passes and threw for 5 TDS with only one interception.

Runningbacks

Antonio Pittman (Rams) - Started in place of Stephen Jackson and carried the ball 19 times for 83 yards. He also caught three passes for 22 yards and could be a strong flex play if Jackson misses Week 9 against the Cardinals. Backup Travis Minor only carried the ball four times.

BenJarvus Green-Ellis (Pats) - Green rushed the ball nine times and scored a TD with Sammy Morris and Lamont Jordan out due to injury. Green could see 10-12 this week against the Colts if Morris and Jordan are out again.

Wide Receivers

Matt Jones (Jags) - Jones was targeted a league high 16 times in Week 9. He finished with eight catches for 117 yards and a TD. Jones is 11th in the NFL with 37 receptions and 10th with 63 targets. Jones has a favorable matchup against the Bengals this week while he continues  to play through his appeal.

Ted Ginn Jr. (Dolphins) - Ginn caught a season high seven passes for a career best 175 yards against the Bills. On the first play of the game he caught a 46-yard play action pass from QB Chad Pennington. He also made big plays off slant receptions and makes a strong bye week replacement start against the Broncos.

Tight End

Billy Miller (Saints) - Miller was targeted 10 times and finished the game with seven receptions for 82 yards. In his past two games he has 11 catches for 138 yards. The Saints have a bye this week but with starting TE Jeremy Shockey still out with his hernia Miller could be used as a fantasy starter in Weeks 10 and 11 vs. the Falcons and Chiefs if Shockey reamins out.

Kicker

Dan Carpenter (Dolphins) - Carpenter made three field goals including a 45-yarder against the Bills. He scored double digits for the first time this season last weekend makes a strong start against the Broncos in Week 9.

Defense

Texans- The Texans defensive unit held the Bengals to six points and 253 total yards of offense last week. Over the past three weeks Houston has scored two defensive TDs, registered six sacks and forced five turnovers. Defensive end Mario Williams is tied for fifth in the league with seven sacks and tied for first with three forced fumbles. The Texans play the Vikings and Ravens over the next two weeks.
