Florida Gator Defense Ready for Saturday

ian HardmanOct 28, 2008

Last year's defense that surrendered over 400 yards of total offense—188 on the ground to Knowshon Moreno, which put him on the map—will not show up on Saturday against Georgia.  A defense that is first in scoring defense and third in total defense in the SEC will.

Florida is much more experienced and mature than they were last year on both sides of the ball.  They are significantly more mature on defense.

We can stop talking about the whole celebration ordeal from last year.  Everyone knows that it was disrespectful and totally uncalled for—everyone except people from Georgia.  It will no doubt give the Gators motivation on Saturday, but that is not going to be why they win.  They are going to win because Florida is so much stronger on defense.

Both offenses are powerful and have the capability to score on any given play, and that's why Florida will win.  Their defense will be able to slow down Matthew Stafford and keep that offense in check.

Georgia has a depleted offensive line that will not be able to handle the power and speed of Jermaine Cunningham, Lawrence Marsh, Terrone Sanders, Justin Trattou, and Carlos Dunlap up front.

Moreno did rush for 163 yards and a touchdown against LSU, but that defense is a fraud.  The Tiger defense has given up over 100 points to the two best teams in the SEC East—they can't handle a dynamic offense.

Besides the Ole Miss game, which is buried in the back of everyone's mind on Florida, the defense is stellar.  There is no doubt that Stafford is the best quarterback Florida has faced and probably will face all season, but they will come more than ready to play.

Brandon Spikes, the leader of that defense, will not let them have a letdown.  Ryan Stamper and Brandon Hicks will be ready to get after a weak Georgia offensive line.

Massaquoi and Green for Georgia will not be lethal against the Florida secondary of Joe Haden, Major Wright, Ahmad Black, and freshman sensation Janoris Jenkins.  Those guys will shut down the receivers of the Bulldogs.

With what is at stake, the added motivation that Florida has, and the fact that it is a rivalry game, the Gators will come out composed and explosive on offense with Tebow, Harvin, Demps, and Rainey, and will be more than ready on defense to shut down the number one offense in the SEC.

Be ready for the most intense Cocktail Party EVER!
