2011 NBA Draft Results: Tristan Thompson Goes No. 4 to Cleveland Cavaliers

At 6’9”, Tristan Thompson is going to be a bit of an undersized power forward at the highest level of professional basketball, but don’t let that keep you from being high on this former Texas Longhorn.

Thompson has a great wingspan and tremendous athleticism, both of which help maximize his talents in the low post. It was there that the freshman did the bulk of his damage for the Longhorns, averaging 13.1 points and 7.8 rebounds per game during his first season in college.

But that said, move Thompson outside of the painted area, and you’re looking at an entirely different player. Whether it’s his 48 percent free-throw shooting or the uncomfortable feeling that he exudes when he steps outside the paint, Thompson undoubtedly needs work on that part of his game.

It was quite surprising that Thompson was drafted this high, but he does fill a gaping void for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

As long as Irving takes all the shots from outside the paint, they'll be just fine playing together.

This pick will hinder Cleveland's chances of getting to the playoffs sooner rather than later because Thompson does need a good bit of work on his offensive game.
