WWE Capitol Punishment Results: 10 Matches We Need to Get at Money in the Bank

Giulio RomanoJun 21, 2011

It's speculation time, boys and girls, as Capitol Punishment is behind us and we need to look ahead to the future.

Last night's show was good on paper but ended up being a sleeper towards the end as Superman himself, John Cena, retained his coveted WWE championship against a dominant R-Truth.

This means the "face" of the company can never lose fair and square, which in turn means, you need to resort to sneaky tactics to gain that title.

Enter the Money In The Bank pay per view set for July 17, 2011.

There are going to be two great ladder matches for the career-altering briefcases. One for RAW and the other, for Smackdown.

What if there were a third?

The inaugural show made history as Kane and The Miz claimed their prized and cashed in with success, bringing them both a World title reign. While the former hadn't held such a prize in over 10 years, the latter made sure he became known as "the most must-see WWE Champion in history."

Every time someone cashes in his contract, he is successful. Will history repeat itself once more?

Here now are some matches I think would really make this year's event something to remember and truly prepare us for the event of the summer known to us as "SummerSlam."

History in the Making: Divas Compete for a Briefcase

1 of 11

Now THIS I would love to see!

I am in love with all the Divas...except the Bella Twins!

It was recently announced in THQ's WWE' 12 there would be a Divas elimination chamber match accessible. Excellent idea!

Why not have a Divas edition of MITB this year? They are phenomenal athletes and certainly deserve such an honor.

We could see in there:

Melina

Natalya

Maryse

Gail Kim

Alicia Fox

and

Eve Torres to name a few.

Just imagine, one of them cashing in and failing! I figure it's not as bad as one of the boys losing their cash-in, right?

Nevertheless, it would certainly be one of the most hyped matches of all time. I really mean that. Who wouldn't want to watch this?

WWE should think about trying this out. It most certainly would spice things up a little bit.

My pick out of this list would have to be: Maryse

A Real Divas Championship Match, Please

2 of 11
Which one will it be?
Which one will it be?

I don't care how you spin this one around, I want a Divas title match next month!

Not only do I want that to happen but I now beyond ecstatic that Fromage Brie lost the belt tonight.

Those damned Bellas! They are horrible!

Is it time for a Beth Phoenix vs. Kelly Kelly match? I know it seems to be a steal for "The Glamazon" but if this division is to gain any respect until Kharma returns, then Beth is the one to carry it.

I have written about this in a previous article. Go take a look, it is worth the detour.

Either way, there are so many "heel" divas right now we wouldn't be short of challengers.

Just the idea of Beth Phoenix taking on either Natalya, Gail Kim or Melina brings fire to my heart.

This and the Divas MITB match go hand in hand.

For their sake and ours, I hope I am right.

The RAW Money in the Bank Ladder Match

3 of 11
Last year's winner: The Miz
Last year's winner: The Miz

The Miz triumphed last year in the inaugural show and brags about it still. Gotta love the man for that. The best part is, he took the briefcase by pushing Orton away and cashed it in on the same guy!

This year, we should have a few different faces in this match.

United States Champion Dolph Ziggler

Evan Bourne

Rey Mysterio

Jack Swagger

Drew McIntyre

Mason Ryan

Kofi Kingston

and

Alberto Del Rio

My pick out of this list would have to be: Drew McIntyre

The SMACKDOWN Money in the Bank Ladder Match

4 of 11
Last year's winner: Kane
Last year's winner: Kane

Kane, the big red monster, claimed his briefcase and cashed it in successfully the same night to win the World Heavyweight championship from the battered and bruised Chihuahua, Rey Mysterio.

Here are some potential names for this year's match:

Intercontinental Champion Ezekiel Jackson

Cody Rhodes

Sin Cara

Wade Barrett

Daniel Bryan

Kane

Brodus Clay

and

Sheamus

My pick out of this list would have to be: Brodus Clay

Jinder Mahal and Great Khali vs. Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov

Future Tag Team Champions?
Future Tag Team Champions?

It has been a while since we've had a tag team match on pay per view.

I may like this large Indian pairing but I need to see more of them so perhaps a match against former Tag Team Champion Marella and Kozlov could be what I need.

The stipulation? The winners receive a title match. Sounds good to me.

With the few teams left in WWE, this could be good.

Who else do we have?

The Usos, Slater and Gabriel, current champions Otunga and McGillicutty...Hawkins and Ryder?

The lost art of tag teaming. Here is a great solution for all those superstars you have nothing to do with. Create a tag team! I think that's better than being unemployed.

My ultimate pick would definitely be a "face" or "tweener" alliance between Drew McIntyre and Sheamus.

NOBODY would defeat them...for a whole year. That alone would restore prestige to the waning division and its championship.

What else can I think of?

MNM!!!!!

A man can dream no? Melina in skirts........it's suddenly hot in here!

Back to this particular match, Mahal defeated Kozlov last week on Smackdown, he is working with Khali, just put all four guys on the card and be done with it!

There.

Clash of the Behemoths: Big Show vs. Mark Henry

6 of 11
POW!
POW!

Last night, we saw Mark Henry unleash the beast and demolish Big Show thus allowing Alberto Del Rio to win by submission.

I thought to myself, a match between them would actually be fun to watch. Two big guys trying to destroy each other...sounds great!

They shouldn't open the show with this but maybe somewhere in the middle of the night would be alright.

I wonder how long they could take it to each other though. Big guys wear out pretty fast...then again, not always.

Whatever happens between now and then, I am interested.

John Morrison Finally Gets a Piece of R-Truth

7 of 11

We've seen this one coming.

I don't think either will be in the MITB match because they have a score to settle. It shouldn't be resolved on RAW. This one could highlight a pay per view.

The Miz vs. Alex Riley: Round Two...Fight!

8 of 11
The Miz needs to win one over Alex Riley
The Miz needs to win one over Alex Riley

As much as I would love to have both parties in the MITB match, I doubt they will be.

One will cost the other his chance and it should lead to another great match between them.

I really feel The Miz could be the spotlight of Friday nights if he was there and so I would tend to speculate somewhere down the road, he and Riley could settle it in a loser leaves RAW match.

If not here at the Money In The Bank show, then in Los Angeles during SummerSlam?

Either way, the most must-see WWE champion in history needs to have at least one victory in this intense feud.

Sooner or later, he will have the upper hand and show A-Ri who's boss...literally.

May I say, last night at Capitol Punishment, The Miz was clearly dominating the match as he was the one with the most experience.

We had another case of the "face-is-a-superhero" syndrome where a suddenly fresh Riley scored the winning fall.

I wonder when we are going to develop a cure for that.

John Cena Battles His Old Nemesis CM Punk

9 of 11
Should he stay or should he go? What is he going to say?
Should he stay or should he go? What is he going to say?

This match is for the WWE championship.

CM Punk hopefully announces his re-signing with the company and this should lead to an amazing program with "The Champ."

Forget R-Truth. This man is a far more impressive character and a heavily favored Superstar amongst the "IWC", finally something we can agree upon.

If done right this time, the build up for this story could be huge and I am certain if he is able to do so, CM Punk will carry John Cena through the match to make him look spectacular.

It worked for Warrior, didn't it? Macho Man made him look like a star. Same thing here.

Whatever rumor is going on about Alberto Del Rio being the one to challenge Cena at SummerSlam may yet never happen. It is just a rumor after all, an idea. These things change so often...especially in the WWE.

It would be too obvious, with his whole destiny thing, to allow Del Rio to win the WWE title so soon. Why does he have to have it now?

Pace yourself, Alberto!

On the other hand, if CM Punk DOESN'T re-sign, this could be the factor as to why he leaves...being taken out by Superman himself.

Isn't that the other rumor going around? John Cena asked for working with Punk and could send him packing after their Loser Leaves match.

Either scenario is possible at this moment. I can't wait to see how it all develops.

***Note...Upon writing this article, CM Punk was set to deliver a special message on RAW tonight. I do not know what that is nor want to speculate. We will see in due time.

Randy Orton vs. Christian III

10 of 11
They give us amazing matches...what's one more?
They give us amazing matches...what's one more?

When I write the No. 3 up there, I do mean at a pay per view event.

This WOULD BE the third time around but not the last should Christian win...damned rematch clauses.

I really do not think "The Viper" will lose the title to Captain Charisma...ever. Orton is tremendously over and I want something less obvious to happen to his title reign.

They give us such great matches however, the best work Orton has produced in ages so I wouldn't mind seeing another round.

Since this is MITB, how much do you want to bet the briefcase winner cashes in on either winner and takes the title?

I would very much like this scenario. Then we could have a superb triple threat match at SummerSlam and would put an end to the rivalry between the viper and captain.

Oh yeah...I forgot...I don't care about the "IWC" favorites...Kofi and Christian? Baby, you can keep them!

Be Patient! It Is a Month Away.

This year's edition will hopefully surpass the last.
This year's edition will hopefully surpass the last.

Hopefully the WWE creative team will start booking some matches right away in order to have proper build-up.

Good things need time to develop. We didn't believe R-Truth was a legit contender. It wasn't his fault AT ALL, there was not enough time assigned to him.

Now things are different.

It really doesn't matter who ends up with the titles at the end of the match because the minute a superstar claims a briefcase, he/she has a whole year to cash in.

The champions need to watch their backs and trust nobody!

It will be an exciting pay per view event.

Some gimmick shows are just silly, but Money In The Bank is solid gold!
