WWE: The Most Memorable Father-Related Storylines in WWE History

Robert AitkenJun 19, 2011

I hope that everyone out there is enjoying their Father's Day today. No matter what sport or line of work it is, sons have often followed their dad's footsteps and gone into the same business, even if the business is professional wrestling. Now, more than ever, there are second- and third-generation superstars in WWE, literally turning the company into a family business.

Even still, we are still talking about WWE. Fathers have done some crazy things to their sons. We just saw, a few months ago, an altercation between Jerry "The King" Lawler and his son, Brian Christopher, formerly known as Grandmaster Sexay. Never before had the two been seen as being related in the WWE world, but there are more father-son pairs out there than you think.

In fact, rumors have run rampant that the sixth season of NXT is supposed to feature rookie sons being teamed up with their Hall of Fame dads. Knowing full well that some interesting father storylines will come out of that season, here are some other stories that can be talked about around the Father's Day barbeque or breakfast in bed for dad.

Hornswoggle McMahon

1 of 10

This was the result of uncontrollable circumstances and leaked spoilers, in that order. Combined, it brought us one of the worst payoffs to what could have been a fantastic storyline. This all began when Vince McMahon exploded in a limo on an episode of RAW.

It was supposed to lead to Vince staying off television and elevating someone into the main event. Instead, Chris Benoit shockingly passed away and kayfabe had to be broken to explain the difference between real life and storyline.

Once it was rewritten that McMahon faked his own death for the attention, a new storyline began that had Vince finding out about an illegitimate child he fathered, who just so happened to be a WWE superstar.

Spoilers revealed Mr. Kennedy to have the role as VKM's son, but WWE, like they always have, changed the story to sidestep the leaked result. It led to Hornswoggle being a McMahon, a gag that went on for months until it was revealed that Hornswoggle was not Vince's son, but Finlay's. So yeah, we can all take blame for that trainwreck going the way that it did.

Dawn Marie Marries Al Wilson

2 of 10

Who wouldn't love for their father to remarry a beautiful woman that makes them happy? Torrie Wilson wouldn't, especially if that woman was Dawn Marie and that wedding took place on an episode of SmackDown. Did we mention that they would get married in their underwear?

Had it not been for the fact that Dawn Marie and Torrie Wilson would have a lesbian moment together (because Dawn Marie married Al Wilson to get to Torrie, if that makes any sense), this would be a very forgettable storyline. Instead, it lives on as one of those "Well, I forgot about it but thanks for reminding me"-type moments from the past decade.

Chavo Classic Wins Cruiserweight Championship

3 of 10

I think this is my favorite storyline of this list and not just because it focuses on the Cruiserweight division, which I miss almost once every week and a half or so. Chavo Guerrero was the Cruiserweight Champion at the time and, when Spike Dudley wanted to get a title match, the match was made into a Triple Threat match to include Chavo Guerrero's father, known as Chavo Classic.

In the match, Spike hits Chavo Classic onto his son inadvertently and the three-count commences as Chavo Classic is trying to get up. He is crowned the Cruiserweight Champion by pinning his own son.

Randy Orton Punts Mr. Cena

4 of 10

In the middle of the John Cena/Randy Orton feud over the past few years, the rivalry seemed to take a turn when Randy Orton ambushed Cena on an episode of RAW.

Instead of punting Cena, Orton took Cena's father, who was sitting at ringside, and punted him in the skull instead. It would lead to Mr. Cena fighting on behalf of John against Orton on a future episode of RAW.

Shane Buys WCW, Invades WWE

5 of 10

WWE bought WCW out and, during the last official WCW Nitro episode, Vince McMahon was outdone by his own son, Shane. Instead of Vince buying the competition, Shane bought WCW and wished to compete against his own father.

Shane's WCW would get airtime on WWF programming before literally invading his father's product. This would go on for a few months in 2001 before WCW, which had aligned with a returning ECW, was out of business from a WWE victory.

Eddie Guerrero Is Dominic's Daddy

6 of 10

The friendship between Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio has been well-known and well-publicized over the years prior to and since Eddie's sudden death. When Eddie was still around, an interesting storyline took place between Mysterio and Guerrero. Guerrero made a claim about Mysterio's family, which ended up being that Dominic, Rey's son, was actually fathered by Eddie.

This led to a SummerSlam match for the custody of the kid, which Rey won. That made sense, since the kid really is Mysterio's, although I'm not so sure how WWE matches stand up in court.

Lita Carries Kane's Baby

7 of 10

Kane had an eye for Lita and outlasted Matt Hardy to steal her away from him. They went out and Lita announced that she was pregnant to her new husband, The Big Red Machine. Lita used the child to hold over Kane's head, who was gentle with her at that point.

In a match with Snitsky, Lita was knocked off the ring apron and effectively lost the pregnancy. This all but turned Kane face at the time, feuding with the baby-kicking Snitsky, who swore "it wasn't my fault."

Vince McMahon Is His Own Grandson's Father?

8 of 10

Some storylines that never make it to television become more famous than those that do. One of the most notorious storylines that never was included an incest storyline, where Vince McMahon would be revealed as the father to Stephanie's child. Essentially, the story would mean that Vince would be his child's father and grandfather.

Thankfully, the storyline, who was thought up by Vince himself, was shot down. The storyline was then adjusted to have Shane be the father to his sister's baby, but that was also vetoed. This is just another example about how Vince McMahon will literally do whatever it takes to make his product interesting.

Mark Henry Is a Dad...Sort Of...

9 of 10

Mark Henry was a former Olympic athlete, a former Strongman competitor and was deemed "Sexual Chocolate" in WWE when he met Mae Young, who was... really old. The odd couple did more than walk to the ring together.

We then needed to be exposed to the idea of Mae Young being pregnant with Henry's baby. Instead of having her lose the pregnancy, which would make sense, she birthed a plastic version of Thing from The Addams Family.

I wonder what that plastic hand got Mark Henry for Father's Day today.

Cody Defends Dusty's Honor

10 of 10

Cody Rhodes came into WWE in the way that so many second-generation superstars have: on the coattails of their father. Cody was backstage with his father, Dusty, encountered another legacy of wrestling, Randy Orton.

Orton was still on his Legend Killer gimmick when he saw Cody and slapped Dusty in the face. It would lead to Rhodes getting his first feud with Orton, who he would later align with in Legacy.
