Strikeforce Dallas Results: Live Play-by-Play Results and Fight Card Analysis

Dale De SouzaJun 18, 2011

Dallas, Texas—home of NBA Champions Dallas Mavericks, the legendary Dallas Cowboys and, tonight, it's home to Scott Coker and the continuation of the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix quarterfinals.

The MMA world has talked about this ever since the Grand Prix first began: Eight of the world's top Heavyweights entered with the claim of being the best heavyweight in the world and a potential crack at Alistair Overeem's Strikeforce Heavyweight Title. After tonight, half of the entrants will have fallen.

Antonio Silva, arguably a dark horse in the Heavyweight division before the Grand Prix was ever conceived, was not given a chance to beat the great Fedor Emelianenko by anything aside from a controversial decision.

Ten minutes after the opening bell, Fedor's right eye was badly bruised and the referee had no choice but to halt the fight.

"Bigfoot," the former EliteXC Heavyweight Champion, awaits the victor of a long anticipated rematch from PRIDE Shockwave 2006 between Alistair Overeem and Fabricio Werdum, while Sergei Kharitonov will take his place in the semifinals to await either Josh Barnett or Brett Rogers.

Those who did not watch the Russian striker's last Strikeforce outing will likely remember that his last outing in Strikeforce came against one Andrei Arlovski, whereas those who were able to see the Fedor-Silva card will remember that Kharitonov seemed hurt by Arlovski at times in the early going, but would come back to defeat Arlovski in a stunning yet somewhat anticipated defeat.

Strikeforce tonight also brings you a lightweight bout between K.J. Noons and Jorge Masvidal with possible title implications, pending the result of a Justin Wilcox-Gesias Cavalcante affair. It will also feature the return of UFC notable Jeff Monson opposite Daniel Cormier and a battle of heavyweight alternates as Chad Griggs faces the biggest test of his career in one Valentijn Overeem.

All this and more coming to you live and direct from Dallas, Texas—home of Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum!
