WWE Capitol Punishment: 5 Reasons Christian Can Take the Title from Randy Orton

Graham GSM MatthewsJun 17, 2011

In nearly 48 hours, WWE returns to pay-per-view with the debuting, innovative Capitol Punishment. As much as the WWE Championship Match between John Cena and R-Truth intrigues me, it's the World Heavyweight Championship Match that has the potential to once again steal the show.

Involved in this intense, dramatic battle over the brass is current World Champ Randy Orton defending against the crazed Christian, this time with a twist. Following numerous obstructions, Captain Charisma has finally turned his back on the WWE Universe, completing his logical heel turn in the process.

However, as the show draws closer, I analyze this match as to who emerges victorious. With much thinking, it's Christian who I believe will initiate his second reign as World Heavyweight Champion.

Here, I present to you reasons why I see this occurring the way I predict it to:

1. Christian's Last Chance

As noted by Christian during a promo last week on SmackDown, it will be his last chance to compete for the World Heavyweight Championship while Randy Orton holds possession of it. Now remember, this isn't an official stipulation, but I wouldn't see why Orton would grant Christian any more rematches after Sunday should he retain.

Moreover, there is always the possibility of Christian losing, winning the Money in the Bank Ladder Match next month, and cashing it in on a weakened Orton, but that would seem like a predictable move. Having Christian win here would mean future matches with the rematch stipulation in Orton's contract.

2. Hottest Heel in the WWE

It's only been two weeks since Christian turned heel, yet he is still the most controversial figure in the WWE today. While R-Truth has grown on me, Christian provides the skill set to shine on the mic as a heel while putting on excellent matches with whoever he's in the ring with.

Why kill Christian's momenteum now? Losing wouldn't do him much harm, but winning back the strap would boost his credibility as a serious threat on the SmackDown roster.

3. Lack of Challengers

Although, with this turn means Randy Orton is the only baby face on SmackDown who is a former World Heavyweight Champion and a main event player. Being the equivalent to RAW's John Cena, that's not surprising.

But still, there are only so many people Orton can defend against should he retain. No doubt, his matches with Sheamus are solid, but you can only put those guys together so many times before it starts to become stale.

Mark Henry challenging Orton isn't highly anticipating, while Rhodes and Khali are both engaged in programs at the moment. Putting the title on Christian would prevent this by continuing this heated rivalry.

4. Keeping the Feud Alive

Which brings me to my next point. Randy Orton vs. Christian is probably the hottest thing running currently, so why kill it at its climax?

As stated before, there are a few ways to have Orton win on Sunday and still continue the feud, but that seems illogical to me. Christian bringing home the belt will not only give Captain Charisma more credibility, but after losing his two previous matches, there's not many ways he can stay relavent by losing clean at Capitol Punishment.

5. Randy Orton's Concussion

For those not aware, Randy Orton recently suffered a concussion in Spain last weekend. He has since taken an Impact test as of today, but his work ability is questionable for their upcoming title bout.

Usually, concussions blow over quickly, but what could this mean for his future matches following the pay-per-view? The easiest way to settle it is to not overpower the issue much like Cena would, but rather have Christian take advantage of this ultimate opportunity and ultimately write the Viper off television for at least a week or so.

In conclusion, Christian deserves a second chance at holding the World Heavyweight Championship, and I believe his time comes this Sunday. Some may argue that it's too early to put the belt back on Captain Charisma, but I believe it will only help enhance his heel persona.

Stay tuned for my full preview of Capitol Punishment as a whole coming this weekend, including more analysis and debate on each contest. Make sure to state your position on the World Heavyweight Championship match this Sunday in the comment section below. GSM out.
