MLB Power Rankings: 20 Hilarious MLB Mascot Moments

Robert KnapelJun 14, 2011

Ever since Mr. Met was introduced in 1962, mascots have been entertaining Major League Baseball fans. Almost every fan remembers seeing their favorite mascots when they were kids.

There is certainly competition between mascots, and they often try to outdo each other. Mascots dance, race and occasionally fight, but regardless of what they do, they are there to entertain.

20) Billy the Marlin Gets Ripped

1 of 20

Imagine that you are in the middle of a serious workout at the gym and Billy the Marlin walks in. It would certainly make you look twice.

Billy has no problem with the curls, but runs into a bit of an issue with the bench press. If he could actually fit under the bar, he surely could handle all of the weight on the bar. Someone get that man a Muscle Milk.

19) Josh Hamilton Hits Mr. Mets' Cousins

2 of 20

It had always been known that Mr. Met had a family. He was seen out and in SportsCenter commercials with Mrs. Met and his three children. It was not until 2009, however, that we found out Mr. Met had an extended family.

They apparently hang out at baseball games. His family made the unfortunate decision of going to the All-Star game, and they became part of the Home Run Derby.

18) Security Guard Mocks Stomper

3 of 20

Mascots are known for dancing around on the field. Occasionally they will try to get an umpire or player to dance with them. In this case, a security guard decides he is going to mock Stomper.

Stomper doesn't get made when he catches the guard in the act. He decides to be a good sport and dance along with him.

17) Mascot Spring Training

4 of 20

Players aren't the only ones that need to get ready for the season during spring training. The mascots do as well. Without any coaches, they need to learn from each other.

Raymond is teaching T.C. and Wally some dance moves, and then surprise, out of nowhere, Raymond decides to flash T.C. There also seems to be some tension as Raymond attempts to choke Wally.

16) Don't Mess with the FrankenFriar

5 of 20

FrankenFriar starts off like a good guy and is just dancing about. Then a ball boy with an apparent anger management problem runs up and punches him.

The obvious response from FrankenFriar: a headbutt right to the ball boys' skull. As if that wasn't bad enough, FrankenFriar dances around the woozy bat boy to MC Hammer's "Can't Touch This". It also appears that FrankenFriar has Gene Simmons' tongue.

15) Mascot Fight: Orioles Bird V. Screech

6 of 20

What's better than seeing two mascots fighting? Having them hop on to the tarp and joust.

Screech takes an early lead on the Oriole Bird by landing some solid shots. They then both lose their weapons, and it appears as if the Bird will have a chance to get back into the fight. Then, the Oriole Bird loses his footing and makes a painful fall onto the tarp.

14) Mariner Moose Hits the Wall

7 of 20

The Mariner Moose was rollerblading behind a ATV. All was going well until the end of his stunt. As the Mariner Moose lets go, he slams into the wall.

Billy the Marlin was willing to offer the Moose tips on how to perform the trick, but word is that he declined the offer. Turns out, this is not the Moose's only incident that occurred with a ATV.

13) David Ortiz Lets Wally Down

8 of 20

Wally the Green Monster had a good friendship with David and then this happened. Wally could not believe his eyes when he say Ortiz wearing a Yankees' hat.

Funny thing is that Wally has a smile on his face the whole time. I guess Ortiz had a lot of explaining to do afterward.

12) At Least Bernie Brewer Shoots Better Than LeBron In the Fourth Quarter

9 of 20

The University of Milwaukee-Wisconsin decided to invite a bunch of local mascots in for a basketball game. Bernie Brewer and the Racing Sausages showed up for the game.

Unsurprisingly, none of the mascots were very good basketball players. Every single sausage on the court had their play resemble that of Shawn Bradley.

11) Lou Seal Races Stomper

10 of 20

Apparently Lou Seal's parents never taught him how to ride a bike because he is having trouble riding a tricycle. Luckily for Lou, the Crazy Crab is there to save the day.

Stomper then attempts to take some revenge and goes after Crazy Crab with his bike. It is to no avail, as he has already lost the race to Lou.

10) Mr. Met: Sniper Assassin

11 of 20

Mr. Met needs to do something to occupy his time while the Mets are on the road. He decided he was going to use his t-shirt cannon to play sniper.

Unfortunately for Mr. Met, he cannot hide under the seats after he takes aim because of his massive cranium. The sad thing is that these days, apart from Jose Reyes, having Mr. Met do this during Mets' games would make them more interesting.

9) The Oriole Bird Takes out 3-Quarters of Mount Rushmore

12 of 20

The baseball game between the Orioles and Nationals was not the only competition between members of the two teams. During the Presidents Race that occurs at most Nationals games, the Oriole Bird felt left out.

With Teddy Roosevelt in the lead, the Bird hopped onto the race track and attacked Roosevelt, Abe Lincoln and George Washington. Thomas Jefferson avoided getting him and walked away with the win.

8) Teddy Roosevelt Gets Revenge

13 of 20

This was not the first time that the Oriole Bird had taken out Teddy and his hopes of winning a race. The previous year, Teddy had a huge lead in a race, but the Oriole Bird tackled him.

Teddy did not take this lightly. The next night, Teddy was looking for revenge. Teddy had a huge lead and then he saw the Oriole Bird. He decided to check him into the wall and attack him instead of finishing the race.

7) Raymond and Wally Team Up

14 of 20

Raymond and Wally are not the greatest of friends. They both decide it is a good idea to play some harmless pranks on each other.

However, they have found a reason to become friends, at least for a short period of time, when they get pushed by a Yankees fan. They team up and go after him.

6) Phillie Phanatic Wants David Wright Arrested

15 of 20

The Phanatic believed that David Wright stole his keys to his ATV. He then decided to get the Philadelphia Police Department involved.

Wright is patted down by the Phanatic who is attempting to find his keys. Kudos to David Wright for playing along with the Phanatic and entertaining the fans.

5) Tommy Lasorda Beats Down the Phille Phanatic

16 of 20

Over the years, the Phillie Phanatic had a habit of mocking Tommy Lasorda and the Dodgers. He even had a blow up Tommy Lasorda that he would mess around with.

Lasorda eventually took offense to the Phanatic's actions and went after him. Lasorda showed some impressive speed for a big man and laid down the law.

4) Barney's Got Moves

17 of 20

The San Diego Chicken decided to challenge Barney to a dance-off. It seemed like it would be an easy victory for the Chicken because it appeared that the big purple dinosaur had never displayed any dance moves on his show.

That couldn't have been more wrong. Barney showed off his break dancing moves and made the Chicken look bad. The Chicken then decided to throw Barney over a tarp.

3) Mariner Moose Takes out Coco Crisp

18 of 20

If you recall, the Mariner Moose already had one ATV incident. This time, the team let the Moose get behind the wheel.

The decision once again had bad consequences. Mariner Moose was not paying attention to where he was driving and knocked Coco Crisp right off his feet. There was some poetic justice as the Moose was reprimanded for his actions.

2) Phillie Phanatic Channels His Inner Lady Gaga

19 of 20

The Phanatic has some decent dance moves. He even, shockingly, pulled off the Lady Gaga costume fairly well.

This was not the first time that the Phanatic has shown off his love of Lady Gaga. On Opening Day, he hopped out of an egg and danced to another Gaga song. What's next for the Phanatic? Coming out onto the field in a meat dress?

1) Pierogi: 1, Teddy Roosevelt: 0

20 of 20

The Presidents made a trip up to Pittsburgh to race against the Pierogies. Teddy, who had never won a race, was ahead of all of the other presidents. This was his chance.

Then, Potato Pete left his feet and made a great flying tackle. He laid Teddy out. One of the other pierogies won the race.

Poor Teddy has never won a race, and there is even a website dedicated to finally Let Teddy Win.
