WWE All-Stars Night: Blink and You Missed the WWE Divas
Last night's edition of Monday Night Raw was dubbed the WWE's All-Star night, with superstars and divas from Raw and Friday Night Smackdown! being featured on this three hour edition of WWE's flagship show. Three hours of show equals out to 180 minutes of WWE action (plus commercials of course) and the divas were given five to put on a match.
The match featured every diva currently active on the WWE roster, which was great to see considering that any diva not named Kelly Kelly or having a last name end in Bella hasn't received this much airtime in months on Raw.
The seven on seven tag-team match however, was the most forgettable moment of the night. Out of the 14 divas in the match, only Kelly Kelly and Rosa Mendes actually wrestled. The match was so short that Natalya didn't even take off her leather jacket.
Once again, the WWE higher-ups refuse to give the divas division a chance to become relevant again.
From Melina to Gail Kim to Beth Phoenix, this division has some incredible talent and perhaps the most it's had since the early 2000's when the likes of Trish Stratus, Lita and Victoria were at their peak. Many believe that the early 2000's diva roster was the best in WWE history, but I'd make the argument that this current roster of divas has just as much, if not more talent.
WWE management is made up of some of the most savvy writers and innovators in the wrestling business, but they still don't see just how much talent their wasting by pretending the divas division doesn't exist. Or perhaps they just don't think the wrestling audience wants to see them compete and just want to drool over how hot they are.
Both the WWE fans and management need to treat this division with some respect and give them a chance to show off their immense talent. Let Melina take on Natalya in a match that lasts more than five minutes and I'd put money on the fact that match could steal the show whether it be on Raw, Smackdown or at the next terribly named pay-per-view.
The Divas Championship has been defended only a handful of times since Brie Bella won the title from Eve Torres back in April, with Kelly Kelly being the only challenger to the title.
There is an abundance of talent currently signed to the divas roster, and with those few significant feuds going on outside of the World Heavyweight and WWE Championship feuds, WWE management has no reason to not give some of the divas a good storyline or two and compete for the Divas Championship more than once every other month.
