After Two Losses, Juventus Now Taking Two Steps in the Right Direction

Marzia HazraOct 25, 2008

Two back-to-back defeats followed up by two consecutive wins.

Are Juventus back in winning form? It’s too early to draw any conclusions just yet.

Juventus won against Real Madrid after two-straight defeats under their belts and with God knows how many players out injured. I was just as ridiculously happy as the players were, celebrating like we had won the Champions League trophy or something – that should give you an idea over how much the win meant.

Crisis over! Everything back to normal.

That’s just the thing though, a crisis don’t miraculously end with two wins, the wins are, however, two steps in the right direction.

So what’s the deal with Juventus?

The players showed, injuries and all, what they are capable of against Real Madrid in their midweek Champions League clash. The win came at the time when desperation had hit the Turin club. It brought out the fire, passion, and determination in the players. However, considering the corner that the Bianconeri had already had put themselves in, a win was a must.

Ranieri, in spite of what he says, was hanging on by a loose thread. Seeing the celebration from the players (and coach) afterwards showed not only joy, but also relief.

The main factor to the poor results has along with all the injuries, was the lack of confidence. With all the promises ahead of the season it is in some sense understandable.

What about the crisis, is it over?

The games against Real and Torino were just three days apart and after such an exhausting midweek clash, it is understandable that the players are not able to keep the same kind of quality in their following game.

The important thing here is that Juve got the three points they needed.

It’s a bit tricky to determine whether Juventus won the derby because they were better or simply because Torino’s confidence had been reduced to close to nothing having their four consecutive defeats in mind?

The coming matches against Bologna, Roma and Real Madrid will have to show whether or not Juventus have put the worst behind them.

Great effort and a bit of luck from Amauri have seen him score the winners in both games this week. His confidence must have skyrocketed, and more confidence is exactly what is needed in the Bianconeri players along with Ranieri’s words of wisdom below:

"We have to play way we did last season, with determination, movement and intelligence."
