Philadelphia Eagles: Michael Vick Is Facing the Biggest Season of His Career

Frank PassalacquaJun 13, 2011

Along with the second chance that Michael Vick was given in 2010, comes a new level of expectancy for 2011.

As sad as it may sound, this 2011 will ultimately tell the future of Vick and how much time he has remaining as the face of the franchise. A year after his incredible resurgence Vick will have to shut everyone up, prove he is not a fluke and do what he can to lead the Eagles to a Super Bowl.

As blunt as this sounds, it is true.

If Vick fails to lead the Eagles to the Super Bowl, or even past the Wild Card round of the playoffs, he will continue to hear about how he is a fluke and will never be as good as he was.

This is all very unfair, and should not happen. Granted he is playing for the hardest fans to please in the NFL with the city of Philadelphia, but even still, he should be given a break.

Something tells me that if Vick has a season where he either gets injured or throws 15+ interceptions, he will not return in 2012. Yes, he is under contract, but I think he will be replaced in some way or another.

I know I may sound crazy, but Vick has the most unfair label in the NFL right now, all because of the fact he was already given a second chance, did amazing with it, and now people want more.

The problem is, people (Philadelphia fans and all the tabloids) are never happy, unless the Eagles do win the Super Bowl.

Look at McNabb. He was the face of Philadelphia for 10 years, and was loved/hated by everyone. He led the Eagles to countless playoff births and even the Super Bowl, but he failed to capitalize, had a few injuries along the way, and is now forgotten about.

Now when Vick was first brought in, I hated it. Not only was it because I loved McNabb because of all the success he brought to the team, but because i thought Vick was going to be garbage, and I didn't want a scrambler like Vick under center.

Almost two years later, McNabb is gone, and Vick is a hero.

It's sad to think that if Vick doesn't live up to fans' expectations, he will be in the same shoes as McNabb.

The season is only a few months away—provided the lockout is lifted—and fans everywhere are looking at Vick through a microscope. Only time will tell how he will produce and what he will provide for the Eagles in 2011.
