UFC 131 Results: 5 Reasons to Be Hyped for Junior Dos Santos vs Cain Velasquez

It is finally happening. Junior Dos Santos is going to clash with Cain Velasquez for the UFC heavyweight championship of the world.

Junior Dos Santos is 7-0 in the UFC heavyweight division, and so is the champion, Cain Velasquez.

It was a collision that seemed inevitable, and now we will get to see it later this year.

Neither man has the kind of name recognition among casual fans like Brock Lesnar, Georges St. Pierre or Chuck Liddell in his heyday, but make no mistake about it, this is a superfight folks.

If you are already hyped up for this fight, then congratulations, you are an awesome hardcore fan.

For those of you yet to be excited about this fight, let me give you a crash course in the awesomeness that is going to go down later this year.

5. Athleticism

When they meet later this year, Dos Santos and Velasquez will both be competing at their physical prime, likely being 27 and 29 years of age, respectively.

Both men usually weigh in the same range for fight night, 239lb-245lbs.

They are two of the quickest and most explosive heavyweight athletes that the sport has ever seen. 

4. Striking

Cain Velasquez is an excellent kickboxer with outstanding quick combinations, and Junior Dos Santos has some of the best hands in the sport, period.

Neither man has been knocked out or TKO'd.

Velasquez always gets in his opponent's face, and it will be no different against Dos Santos.

3. Grappling

Dos Santos showed an impressive and highly developed ground game against champion wrestler Shane Carwin, but Cain Velasquez mixes up his wrestling better than any heavyweight in history.

2. Hunger

That first title defense is always the hardest but do you think Velasquez is taking Dos Santos lightly?

No way in hell.

Velasquez knows Dos Santos is just as hungry as he was before he fought for the title.

Velasquez knows Dos Santos blazed an undefeated trail of destruction through the heavyweight division just like he did.

If Dos Santos beats Velasquez, he would take away all the glory that Velasquez thought he had earned for himself.

Velasquez knows who he is fighting. He is fighting the only man with a hunger as great as his own.

These men have gotten to where they are off of hard work alone.

To reach the top, sometimes it takes hard work plus a little of pizazz.  Not these guys.

Both guys are soft-spoken, humble gentlemen who let their fists do the talking.

There is nothing fancy or glittery about this matchup, it is just the two best heavyweights in the world fighting for the championship.
