UFC 131 Post-Fight: Dos Santos Talks Fight with Carwin and Cain Velasquez
UFC 131 is in the books and the main event saw Junior "Cigano" dos Santos put on an absolute clinic in boxing as he picked apart a game and a tough Shane Carwin.
Dos Santos used a reach advantage to plant jab after jab on Carwin, which set up all the power shots he needed to batter and bloody Carwin for victory. Bleacher Report MMA was at the post-fight press conference, where Cigano spoke of his victory over Carwin and also had some comments about his next opponent, heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez.
"This fight was very important you know, because there was so much things in line for me so, I was a little bit nervous but it was like I expected. I was a little bit faster and my boxing skills were a little better than his," dos Santos said.
"I tried to finish him in the first round, but like he said he has a hard chin, and yeah, he's tough and I couldn't."
Dos Santos then went on to talk about his next challenge, a title fight against Cain Velasquez possibly in the fall.
"I think my biggest challenge is coming because Cain Velasquez is the champion and he deserves that, you know he's very good so I will be ready for him."
He was then asked how he thinks he matches up against the current champ.
"The best of Cain is his cardio and he's very good in wrestling, so I have to train a lot for this and I will be working to defend his takedowns and use my boxing. All the time I am looking for the knockout and this will be no different," dos Santos said.
Another stellar heavyweight title matchup to look forward to on the horizon, hopefully sometime in early fall.
